A meeting of the members of the Ladies Aid Society of the Monroe Street Methodist chapel was held yesterday afternoon in the chapel. It was the regular bi-monthly meeting and the usual large number of members were in attendance. The afternoon was spent quilting until 4 o'clock when Mrs. Bur-, lett and Mrs. Ray A Wills served refreshments. Another meeting will be held in two weeks and tne announcement of the place of meeting will be made later. r - - CLUB DID WOT MEET. The members of the Silver Leaf club decided to postpone the meeting which was announced to take place yesterday afternoon. It ha been decided not to meet again until fall when the club will be re-organised and many pleasant social affairs planned. AT AFTERNOON PARTY. Mrs. A. Calrd had as her only invlted guests at an afternoon party yesterday at her home in avenue, the members of the Michigan Sunshine club. All the members were in attend ance and spent a very enjoyable social time. The principal feature of the entertainment was cards and several games of pedro were played. Mrs. Wagner, and Mrs. Calrd won the first and second honors and the consolation prise was awarded to Mrs. J. P. Ryan. At the close of the games the guests were served with a course luncheon at small tables In the parlor and the hour was spent pleasantly In a social way. Mrs. VanLister will be the next hostess and will entertain at her home in Hruman avenue in two weeks. ENTERTAINS AT CARDS. Mrs. Fred Humpher was hostess to the ladles of Circle No. 1 of St. Margaret's hospital yesterday afternoon at her home, 16 Rimbach avenue, at their' regular bi-monthly meeting. and Oakley avenue. The routine busi ness' was transacted after which there was an enjoyable social time when re freshments were served. The arrangements were not completed for the next regular meeting; and announcement will be made of it among the members later. MRS. GRAVES ENTERTAINS. Mrs. L. Graves entertained the mem bers of the Martha society of the First Christian church ,yesterday afternoon at her home, 624 East Sibley street It was the regular weekly afternoon meeting and Important business was transacted. There was a short social hour at the close of the afternoon when Mrs. Graves served a dainty luncheon It was not decided where to hold the next meeting Thursday, June 2d. C 1.1TB MEMBERS MEET. One of the pleasantest club parties of th season was enjoyed yesterday by the members of the Fern Leaf Linen club when they were - the Invited quests of Mrs. Dufraln at her home In Michigan avenue. It was the regular bi-monthly meeting and all the members were present. The afternoon was spent In the usual enjoyable way of the club with card games and the guests played seven games of whist at small tables In the parlors. The honors at the games were won by Mrs. Max Schmidt, first, Mrs. Thomas Kenndey, second and Mrs. Thomas Hart, third Mrs. B. S. Traverse waB awarded the consolation prize. After the close of the games the guests were Invited Into the dining room and served with an elaborate chop suey luncheon. The decorations In the dining room were flowers and ferns and a large bouquet of pink and white carnations was chosen as a center piece for the table-. Mrs. Charles Miller, the president of the club was presented with a bouquet of American Beauty roses and a handsome silver toilet set, the gift of the members in remembrance of her twenty-filfth wedding anniversary. The next sarty will be given as usual in two weeks and Mrs. Thomas Hart will entertain at her home in Sheffield street. REALIZE A NICE Sl'M. A very pleasant . school ' entertain ment occurred last evening in the halls of the Irving building and many Hammond people were In attendance. The affair was in the nature of an Ice cream social and the members of the Parents club were In' charge. There was no program planned for the eve ning: and the guests met In the hall for a social time and were served with Ice cream and cake. About thirtyseven dollars 'was reallxe'd -which will be used for hall decorations. The entertainment will be the last one of the school year. ENTERTAINS AT DINNER. Mrs. Mary T. Holm entertained a few friends at a 6 o'clock dinner last evening at her home, 53 Rimbach avenue. A pleasant social evening followed In the parlors. A SOCTAI. OATIIERINCl. Mrs. J. J. Ruff very delightfully entertained a company of friends at an afternoon party yesterday at Her home In Carroll street Her guests Included the members of the Colonial club and a few invited friends. The guests were received in the parlors where the afternoon was spent with various social diversions. One of the features of entertainment planned by the hostess was a contest in which the guests were provided with tissue paper, needle and thread and asked to prepare a hat. Several of the hats were very artistic and others were ridiculous but they were worn during the remainder of the afternoon and furnished a great deal of amusement. Mrs. Ruff awarded a prise to her guest whose hat was voted the prettiest and It was given to Mrs. Giles Warner. At 4 o'clock the guests were Invited into the dining room and served with an elaborate four course luncheon . The decorations were spring flowers attractively arranged with greens. It was one of the first social meetings of the club members to be held in several weeks and all the members were present. One of the " delightful social entertainments, of the -week was an afternoon party at which Mrs. Peter Crumpacker entertained yesterday at her Homewood residence, complimentary to Mrs. Charles Barry, of New Tork City. Mrs. Barry formerly lived in Hammond and wu prominent tn the society 'circles of the city and the guests at the function yesterday were manybf them friends and acquaintance s of Mrs. Barry' when she resided here. The guests were entertained at cards In" the parlors of the .Crumpacker residence. They played several games of progressive euchre at small tables and the hostess awarded several very pretty prizes. A daintily arranged course luncheon was served at the close of the card games. A DISTRICT MEETING. An interesting meeting of the Lady Maccabees of this district took place in Hammond last evening at Long's hall on State street. It was reported that about three hundred and tweny.flve were in attendance, many of them visitors coming from Michigan City, Valparaiso, Chesterton, Gary, Indiana Harbor, East Chicago and TV'hiting. There were sixty-seven that came from Whiting and the other hives were well represented. There were two visitors from Pennsylvania and others from South Bend, St. Louis and Toledo. The guests of honor at the meeting were Mrs. Heppert of Ohio, who is the su preme finance keeper and Mrs. Meredith, the state commander. The feature of the evening was the obligating of thirty-four candidates. The class was not as large as had been expected but several were detained from the meet-

There was a good attendance and a nice sum was realized, which will be used for the benefit of the Sunday school.
