The money to be spent in improvements will be spent in laying out streets, putting in sidewalks and curbings, sodding and planting trees and by next fall, whe the Klst street sewer and Its laterals which the city is putting in are -completed the lots will" be pclaed on . the market. In disposing of lots In the tract the
company will follow the same plan adopted by It in its handling of a similar subdivson in Whiting, wheh

Indiana Harbor has long been in need of just such a subdivision as the one
just about to be put into condition for marketing, where residents may be assured that everything to be erected within Its limits will be attractive and
high class.

become a reality, in fact -so much so:
that the Contracts for the erection of
Gary's most -atately and handsome structure, costing $200,000, was awarded yesterday afternoon to the William Grace company . of Chicago, actual
work on the excavation of the building
to start early next week.
The news .of the, awarding of the contract was given out by Captain H.
S. Norton in the offices of the - Gary Land company and was joyfully received by the people of Gary. The news that the Gary T. M. C. A. building was to cost $200,000 created a general surprise In Gary when it was
known that Judge E. H. Gary's original donation was $100,000, but the true
facts were learned this morning.
A short time ago when the original
plana were submitted to Judge Gary In New Tork he was -not satisfied with certain details of the plans and in
structed the architects to make the
necessary . changes, so by the time the
plana were finished and accepted by
Judge Gary the cost of the building
would total approximately $200,000. so
that by the time Gary's new Y. M. C. A.
home is completed it will cost, with
the ten lots donated by the Gary Land
company, $225,000. Th entire cost of the construction of the building will be
paid by Judge Gary
Word was given out in the offices of the William Grace company in Chicago this morning that work would start on
the excavations on Monday. The build ing1 is to be erected on ten lots be
twee-n Adams and Jefferson streets and
fronting on Fifth avenue. The building will be set In the middle of the
block so that the alley between Adams
and Jefferson streets 'will be vacated.
The building will be three stories
and a half high and tha -ground plana will be 182 by 72 feet. A wing in the rear will" be 30 by 90.' The exterior of the structure will be of solid stone
masonry.
In the basement there will be a big swimming tank, locker rooms,, bowling
alleys and billiard rooms, besides the
furnace room and. storage rooms
The seeond floor will be devoted to a large gymnasium, dining rooms, club-

asked that the organizations of busi

association will hold a meeting of their organization In the near future for the
same purpose.
President Norton a-oDOlnted a com
mittee consisting of W. C. Crolius. W.
F. Hodges, George Manlove, J. J. Ver-

nvMntrr arrangements In behalf of
the commercial club. There will prob
ably be from 100 to 150 postmasters present on that date and the banquet
will most likely be held on the 29th ol this month.
Another matter which came before
the directors and the finance commit
tee of the club was the progress of the,
work of ratsing the necessary amount
for the immediate erection of the Com
mercial club home. Captain Norton stated this morning that a plan had
now been devised whereby it would be
possible to finance the erection of the
hnHrtine Immediately, but that the
scheme could not be divulged now. The Idea put new life Into the committee and great activity In this direction may be expected immediately.

: (Special to The Times.) Indiana Harbor, May H.-Rudolph SchmuU of thf! firm of Marks and Schmult, nainters and decorators, and Miss Taye Higlln, daughter of Mr. and, Mrs. -H. Higlln, 3829 Elm street, "put one, over" on their friends? Tuesday night, when they slipped quietly away to Chicago and were married. They left after the ceremony "or Detroit, where they now are enjoying a brief honeymoon, but intend to return to Indiana-Harbor on Monday. Mr. Schmult being a discerning Individual and also foxy, concluded that If "the boys", especially one Marke, his partner, got an inkling of what was in store, they would play'some fool trick upon him that might Interfere with his and Miss Hlglin's plans. This much
demonstrated his discernment. His foxlness was evidenced by the method he took to avoid exposure of his con- ' templated act. Instead of arraying his manly form In his wedding raiment In 1 the presence of his partner, who rooms . with him In the Auditorium building, he slipped over to Max Glass, the tailor's, .where ho got into his. glad rags.- Thus nobody but the tailor was "on," and he kept faith with the culprit until he got safely away. However, "the boys" intend to do a-plenty to Mr. Schmult when he returns from his wedding trip on Monday. They have chartered a hall and an express wagon, and a sufficient number of them intend to be on hand at the depot when he and his bride get in to insure his kidnaping. The express

It. is also set forth that the Y. M. C. A. building will be located ' on this street which will make It one of the finest thoroughfares in the city In addition to its other features.

Sam Sax, manager of the Gary baseball team returned this evenfng from South Bend where the directors of the Indiana-Michigan league held an Important session. Probably "the most Important thing accomplished was the
arrangements made with the Murdock lines which reach practically all of the
towns on the circuit for special cars which will be used In the transportation of the players and fans from one city to another. This arrangement will help material-
in creating an interest among the
contendlg cities, in stirrng up rivalry and the fares with the special car serv
ice will be greatly reduced. Booster clubs are being organized in all of the
cities ajid Berren Springs, where Gary ) will play tomorrow for the second game
of the season has a club already organized of 75 members who will follow
their team about the clrc-uit.
Tomorrow an attempt will be made to
get 60 Gary fans to go with the team to Berien Springs. If this number can be secured a special car can be procured and the rate to that city will be
only $1.50 in place of the regular fare of $3.50. The game will undoubtedly be a good one, and the class shown by the Gary aggregation deserves the
support of the city.
Gary has led off with a percentage of
1.000 and hopes to maintain that record for several weeks to come. The percentage to date, is as follows:'

AN UP-TO-DATE STOVE Do you realize there is no longer, any reason why you should use a coal range? Oil is cheaper than coal; it is lighter and easier to handle, and gives an intense heat. Provided you have the right stove, oil is more economical, cleaner and less trouble. Have you seen the
11 CfesE-stove
The accompanying illustration gives you only a rough idea of its appearance. You really can't appreciate it until you either use it yourself, or talk to someone who has used it. It does everything that a coal range will do except heat the room. The New Perfection Oil Cook- . . . , . Stove will do anything, from heating a
kettle of water to cooking a course dinner, but it won't heat a room. It doesn't "smell," it doesn't smoke. It can't get out of order. Light it and it is ready. Turn it down and it is out. Only a woman who knows the trouble Of carrying coal and cooking in a hot kitchen can appreciate what it means to have a clean, perfect stove that will cook anything, boil, bake or roast, and yet-won't heat the kitchen. How is if done? The flame is controlled in turquoise-blue enamel chimneys, and directed against the bottom of pot, pan, kettle or oven, and only there. The flame operates exactly where it is needed and nowhere else. With this stove your kitchen is cool. The nickel finish with the bright blue of the chimneys makes the stove ornamental and attractive. Made with 1, 2 and 3 burners; the 2 and 3-burner stoves can be had with or without Cabinet. KTT'WlM-Terywlw: f not at yours, write toe

That uncertain and lntanplble thing,
the political searchlight, focused its rays In Gary a few days ago and made
lght some interesting things hitherto
obscured by the veil of secrecy. Dur
ing the lost few days Editor Carr of the Gary Tribune has been assailing the census supervisor by attacking the census force in the steel city.
Canae a Mystery. The cause of these editorial shafts
have been a mystery in view of the
fact that when an examination for
census takers was held In Gary every applicant failed o obtain the required grade. In consequence Supervisor
Doran, it; is said, was obliged to come to Gary and personally request the
present census takers to accept the
positions- They did this after much
persuasion.
Attacking; Crum packer. A few days ago the Tribune suddenly
attacked the census methods In Gary and wound up by sending an indignant
telegram to Congressman Crumpacker. These attackts have been continued
and. the Tribune is in a high state of dudgeon over the offense X?) to civic pride when the census is not nearly completed. However, a theory was offered which may solve the indignation of the editor and also enlighten the public upon some of the attacks which the erstwhile republican organ made upon Congressman Crumpacker at the time he was seeking renomlnatVon. He Wanted It Himself. . According to the tale which has now come to light, Carr was desirlous of being appointed census supervisor for this district. However, Congressman Crumpacker did not aid him in his ambitions and the result was that Presi
dent Taft gave the commission to Francis Doran, of Michigan City. A short while after the congressman was made the subject of a series of editorial attacks. Whether Mr. Carr's
Jealousy of Mr. Doran has prompted
him to assail the census methods in Gary is not known. However, if the story is true" the reason for the attacks upon Congressman Crumpacker and Supervisor Doran are quite apparent. y
