GRUUPiGKER 10 PUT IT THROUGH HOUSE Gary's Harbor Bill Takes the Attention of the Senate Yesterday.
Washington. D. C. May 13. On request of Senator Shively the senate today passed a Joint resolution giving the United States Steel Company the right to extend its harbor facilities at Gary, Ind. Under the resolution the company may 'fill in the lake out to a depth of not exceeding two hundred feet and may build on the mainland wharves, piers and such other structures as may be useful for occupancy, or to promote navigation, inside and outside the two hundred foot line. The work is all to be done according to plans approved by the secretary of war. Representative Crumpacker will undertake to get the resolution through the house. ROBBERS INVADE CITY LAST NIGHT (Continued from Page Oae.) ' the bold robberies. The store has been lately opened on Bormann boulevard, and is shared by Laughlin & Hill as a drug store. The thieves gained entrance by prying open a rear window with a sharp instrument. The window was evidently barred, as the men had .to break the window glass in order to enter the building. The stolen goods consisted of about a dozen gold watches, silver watches, chains, brooches and other Jewelry. Going over to the other side of the store the men broke open the cash drawer and took about $5 in cash. A number of boxes of cigars were also taken'. The thieves expected to make a rich haul at the postofflce, but they were sadly disappointed. On prying open the stamp drawer they secured about $2 in stamps, a revolver and a small amount of change. Marshal Frank Martin was notified of the robberies early this morning, and began to work on the case. As Tolleston is only guarded by one deputy marshal, the thieves had no trouble in their operations after a certain hour of the night. MARATHO RAGE FOR THE HARBOR (Special to The Times.)
