Good Team From Crown, Pt. The Crown Point high school will be represented by a good team at the northern Indiana oratorical and track meet at South Bend tomorrow and hopes are running high In the local school that the county seat will be heard from. In the oratorical contest Oakley Morton will be the local representative, speaking on the subject "The Perils of Immigration." Morton's ability as a speaker is well known and the , local school expects a place on the winning list at the end of the oratorical eyent. , In the athletic line Crown Point sends three representatives. McWayne, taking part in the mile, half-mile and quarter mile events. - Glover in the pole vault, low and high Jumps, and Benjamin in the hurdles and jumps. Crown Point has no one entered in the weight eevnts, but as the three on the team are In good form
Boilermakers of Hammond. Another Hammond team, this time the Boilermakers, will get a chance to win from Crown Point on Sunday afternoon at the local grounds, the game being arranged on Wednesday. The Boilermakers are a good team and - gave Crown-Point a hard tussle last season and wili do their utmost to break the long string of defeats the Hammond teams have been subjected to in the past by Crown Point baseball talent. The locals can afford to lose a game or two, but they are not going to play the game with, that result in view.

Closing Out Stock. Jacob Steeb is closing out his stock of goods in the postofflce building and will soon be out of business at that stand. The stock Is being bought by several Crown Point merchants who carry the respective lines, and the building will be vacated In a short time. Mr. Steeb will devote his entire time to his work in the People's State bank In the future.
The members of the High School Alumni society met at the home of Judge and Mrs. W. C. McMahon last evening for the purpose of naming committees and outlining a program for the yearly banquet and entertainment of the society given the graduating class. It is said that Mrs. Murphy will not
return to Crown Point this summer on account, of feeble health, deciding to atay at Los Angeles, Cal., to avoid
the hardships of the long and tedious trip east, which her physicians consider inadvisable at this time. A lady from Chicago was here yesterday looking for a suitable reisdence In Crown Point to be used as a summer residence by herself and two children. Good houses are scarce in Crown Point again, the best ones being occupied. Mrs. H. D. Jacqulth, who has been residing in Florida this winter, will make an extensive .visit with Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Root, of South street In the near future. Mrs. Oliver Wheeler and Mrs. John Fisher are Chicago visitors today. Supt. Curtis of the Crown Pcsint schools is in Hammond and Chicago on business today. While passing through the shop yards, where some of the boys were playing ball, she was struck with the ball, receiving severe injuries, but nothing serious. Mrs. A. Seberg spent yesterday in Chicago shopping. . Miss Edna Oder spent yesterday afternoon calling on friends in Burnham. Mrs. Mary Neel, Miss McGarry, Miss Stevenson and Claude Neel were Hammond visitors Tuesray evening. Three more Sundays and the skating season closes at the East Chicago rink. 12-3t
Post Nuptial Reception. A nuptial reception was given on Wednesday night by Mrs. Ada Dean Davidson, at her home In 242 Laporte avenue, which proved to be the leading society event of the season. The reception was in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stead Davidson, who were married on Monday, May 2, at Chicago. Mr. Davidson Is the son of Mrs. A- D. Davidson, and the bride before her marriage was Mrs. Iva Belle Dyer. The reception was held at the home of the groom's mother, and the guests were served at the home fo the groom's brother, Charles D. Davidson, also on Laporte avenue. ,The guests numbered about 110, be

HOBART. Mrs. Dora Owen transacted business In Chicago yesterday. Mrs. O'Dell Is having a steel put on her building occupied by Calvin Fleming. Contractor Pyle of Gary was a business visitor here yesterday. A. B. Wyaut will open a saloon in the Roper building. He has at present been in the real estate business here.
The Elaine Rebecca lodge has purchased a new piano for their lodge room. The Unitarian Ladies' Aid Alliance will meet next Wednesday with Mrs. H. Scholler. William Read is on the sick list. The Hobart Grays will cross bats with the Chicago Warrens next Sunday, weather permitting. A daughter was born last week to Mr. and Mrs. Lottie Van Loon. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Burns and son, Earle, have returned from Roann, Ind., where they were called by the death of Mrs. Burns' mother.
Junior Play. The date of the junior play, "The Cool Collegians," has been changed from Friday, May 28, to Thursday, June 2. The play, which is very Interesting, brimming over with the college spirit, is in two acts. The scene of the first act Is at Yale college and act 2 Is Mrs. Huntoon's home. Visit Hammond Hive. A number of the members of Wimo Daughsis Hive, L O. T.. M., attended the meeting of the Maccabees at Hammond on Wednesday night to make arrangements for their rally which is to be held at Hammond on May 26. Those attending were Mesdames John Moore, John Keller. H. G. Muffitt, Frank Long, George W. Jones, George F. Henthorne and Charles Pedersen. A number of Robertsdale members were also in attendance.
William Hobbs has returned from Baltimore, Md., where he was compelled to go on account of Illness, but
has since recovered. - ! L. HMattern was in Chicago yesterday. John Grunhart of South Chicago was a Whiting visitor on Wednesday evening. Mrs. H. G. Muffitt entertained a number of ladies at her home in Oliver street yesterday afternoon. The revival services which have been conducted by the First Church of Christ, on Central avenue, will close next Sunday night. Mrs. Martha Trimble, the evangelist, has proven her ability in this line, there having been forty-six joined the church, with many yet to decide. By special request Mrs. Trimble's husband, Rev. Kelson H. Trimble, who was until last Sunday pastor of the Metropolitan Church of Christ, In Chicago, will preach this evening. On Saturday evening there will be a reception in honor of Mrs. Trimble, and those who have joined the
church, for the other members of the
church, and all who care to attend. That the meetings have been a success is the opinion of all, and great things are promised for the Sunday services, special sermons being announced, and Mrs. Trimble will also give her farewell address on Sunday night. Rev. F. M. Webster of the Plymouth Congregational church will preach next Sunday morning from the theme, "The Power of Faith," and in the evening, "Fidelity to the Higher Self." The large chorus choir under the direction of D. D. Lash will sing at both services. James Steele, who has been living with his daughter, Mrs. George Stepheens, has gone to Canada to spend the summer with relatives. Whiting-Lowell Dual Meet. The Whiting high school athletic team will go to Lowell tomorrow, where they will have a dual meet with the Lowell high school team. There will be ten from Whiting to go, and as they defeated the Gary high school last Saturday, much interest Is being shown.
