A DELIGHTFUL SOCIETY FUSCTIONV Mrs. J. S. Blackmun formally entertained the members of the Homewood Magazine Club at a one-thirty o'clock violet luncheon at her residence on! Carroll street yesterday. Mrs. Blackmun was assisted in the receiving and entertaining of her guests by Mrs. Franklin A. Blackmun. Covers were laid for eighteen. . The color scheme was prettily carried out with a large cut glass bowl filled with violets and sitting on a glass mirror with violets .strewn on the cloth. This formed a beautiful center piece, , The 3 guests ywere invited to the dining, roojm and ksked to find their1 places. ' painty place cards decorated with viorets, with the names written backwards . caused a great deal of merriment. A delicious four course luncheon was served, which was suggestive of the spring time. "When all were sea'ted, the retiring president, Mrs. George B. Sheerer in behalf of the club welcomed the new , president, Mrs. T. W. Oberlin in a happy manner. Mrs. Oberlin responded in her charming way and accepted the, honor gracefully. The gentlemen's prises were won by Attorney Ross and Fred Wolf. At tne conclusion of the games the hostess served her guests with dainty refreshments at small tables. A COMTMITTEE MEETING. The members of the history committee of the Hammond Woman's Club will meet Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John E. Fitzgerald on Carroll stret. It was the regular study meeting and an Interesting program has been prepared on the study of Central America. Mrs. Henry Burk will be the leader for the day. At the conclusion of the program the annual election of officers In the commttee will take place. There will be an enjoyable social hour when Mrs. Fitzgerald will be assisted In entertaining and serving her guests by Mesdames Abe Cohn, Jaoob Fox, F. 3. Beta and A F. Knotts. WOMAN'S CLUB MEETS. The regular bi-monthly meeting of the members of the Hammond Woman's Club la taking place this afternoon at three o'clock in the auditorium of the First Presbyterian church on South Hohman street. The members of the Daughters Day Commitee of the. club are in charge of the program for the day and have arranged a very interesting entertainment. The opening number will be a piano solo by Mrs. Eugene Cooper and Mrs. L. L. Bomberger will render a vocal selection. The remainder of the afternoon win be given to the lecture by Mr. Edward Langley of Valparaiso, who has chosen as his subject "Decoration In The Home." Mr. Langley's address is antlpated with a great deal of pleasure and interest by the members of the club
and their friends In attendance at the meeting. ANNTAL DANCING PARTY. The members of Eureka camp, M. W. of A. entertained at their annual dancing party last evening In Long'shall, on State street, to which the members and therl friends were invited. Notices were sent to East Chicago, Hegewtsch, Gary. Whiting. Roseland and Indiana Harbor of the party, and many were In attendance. It was the regur laweekly meeting and several of the members were present. The evening was spent in the usual way of the club with various social games - and contests until nine o'clock when a daintily arranged luncheon was served. The next meeting will take place Friday evening of next week and announcement will be made later of the place of meeting.

the vestry. Ladles' Guild and the parishioners of St. Paul's Episcopal church met jn. the Guild hall last night to congratulate their pastor, the Rev. C. A Smith and his wife. The occasion was a reception In honor of the tenth annual anniversary of the Rev. Smith's activity In Hammond.

ACCEPTS APPUCAIIOU OF VALPARAISO H. S. Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Association Fills Vacancy.
South Bend, Ind., April 16. Prof. R. E. Neff of the N6rthern Indiana Interscholastic Athletic association has announced that Valparaiso high school has been admitted to the association in place of Plymouth, that city having resigned its membership because of poor prospects. The application of Valparaiso was accepted at a meeting of the board of directors held at Fort Wayne last Friday, but was not announced until last night. Final arrangements were made for the annual track meet to be held at Notre Dame on May 14 and for the oratorical contest to follow In the evening. South Bend, Elkhart, Goshen, Warsaw, Laporte, Valparaiso, Hammond and Crown Point will be represented in both the meet and oratorical contest. Gold and silver medals will be given the winners.
