Care for Insane. - That other provisions should be made ' 1or Lake county's insane people, than sending them to the county jail to V await. the red tape procedure of securing---commitment papers, etc., to the Longcllffe asylum, was further ' strengthened this week by the self- , destruction of Walter Bennett in one of the cella of the county bastile. The Jair in the first place Is hardly the place to confine Insane people,, unless of the criminal type, and since no adequate provision has teen made for Othoss of unsound mind at the Jail, the fficlals have to cope with the situation as best they know how. Insanity In Lake county, especially In the north-

KEEP THE KiDIIEYS WELL Health is Worth Saving, and Some : Hammond People Enow How to Save It. z Many Hammond people ' take their lives in their hands by neglecting the kidneys when they know these organs need help. Sick kidneys are responsible for a vast amount of suffering and 111 Jiealth, but there Is no need to suffer , nor to remain in danger when all diseases and aches and pains due to weak' kidneys can be quickly and j permanently cured by the use of Doan's ; Kidney Pills. The following statement ! leaves no ground for doubt. W. E. Winters, E. Chicago Street, i East Chicago, Ind., says: "I suffered for a long time from pains in the small of i

any back ana I had other difficulties which led me to believe that my kidneys were disordered. Having heard Doan's Kidney Pills highly recommendedI decided to try them and I procured a twipply. The results of their use wera gratifying. Every symptom of my trouble was quickly ; removed and I waai.restored to good health. It gives me pleasure to endorse Doan's Kidney Pills." era part. Is greatly on the Increase and it would be a wise thing; for the county to provide a proper place of confinement and safe keeping tor1 the mentally deranged, where they could be properly cared for and guarded until ready to be sent to Longcliffe. Bennett in his rational moments spoke of the awful fact of being confined In the Jail with prisoners accused and convicted of crime, and it is thought that this fact so further preyed upon his-, mind that h,was driven to selfdestruction. Something should be done to relieve these conditions for the sake of the insane, those Incarcerated Innocently, and for the officials, who have enough to care for those of sound mind without the additional worry and trouble of guarding the Insane. - Harold, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Craft of Clark street, was quite severely injured yesterday afternoon by falling against the concrete curb "In front of the Craft residence. It was reported and thought at first that the little fellow's Jaw was broken, but the doctor's examination proved that no bones were broken, although the little lad sustained two severe cuts and bruises on his head. He is reported better at this writing. Jules Howland and mother are preparing to leave Crown Point for the west. Intending to locate in the Hood river valley district near Portland, Ore., where Mr. Howland will go into the fruit raising business, one of the chief occupations of that country. They expect to leave Crown Point about the 1st of May, and have already secured a good location for their future home in Oregon. Word from Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gelsen, who are still at Daytona Beach, Fla., states that they are about to start on their homeward' trip after spending the winter In the southland. The rest of

Crown Point's southern resorters are expected back within the next three weeks, which will add quite a number

to the population.

The Commercial club will elect of

ficers for the ensuing year on the even lng of April 4.

The county commissioners will meet

on next Monday. April 4, as will also

the Crown Point town board.

Druggist Handley is on the sick list. The cement contractors are about to

commence their spring work, subject

to a continuance of the present weath

er. Miss Augusta Kopelke and Mrs. Lenora Hart attended a luncheon at the home of Miss Emma Huehn in Haijmond yesterday.
