Van Home, one of the stauncbest republicans in Lake county, has announced his candidacy for the Joint senatorship of Lake and Porter counties and la going after the plum with might and main. Mr. Van Home, by reason of his large acquaintance In the county, is in a position to make a great race for the nomination. He is practically a Lake county boy, having been born a liitle ways from the West Creek township line, and for the past eight years he has practiced law in Indiana Harbor, where he has figured prominently in politics and business life. He is a member of the Lake county Bar association and has practiced in the supreme court. Mr. Van Home haa never asked for an office before, but has always been the ataunchest kind of a republican, and Van, as he is popularly known, expects to make things hum when he begins his active canvass.
MAY EXTEfJO WHITE WAY
An ordinance Is being prepared for its passage at the next session of the Gary city council for the extension of
the street lighting system (The Great
' White Way) from Eighth avenue to the
Michigan Central tracks. The ordinance should, have the hearty approval of the councllmen as well as the businessmen of Gary, as few public improvements have advertised Gary as weyjr as the magniflcientrR,- lighted street. The businessmen and the property owners are wise to push the matter and it is to be hoped that before many
: months the lighting system will be ex
tended as far as Seventeenth avenue. The present lighting system from Fifth to Eighth avenues has been the talk and admiration of' many of the other surrounding cities and many of them are adopting the plan.

HARBOR HAS NEW
GLUE Ifj CASE
The Chicago police received a new
clew in the Wiltshire murder last night.
A man calling himself McDermott, an
attorney at Indiana Harbor, called up the detective bureau in the city hall on the long-distance phone with information concerning another suspect. An Italian, he said, stopped at the Inn
hotel at Indiana Harbor on Monday night and slept in the room next to two detectives from Chicago. The Italian appeared nervous when he entered the hotel and other suspicious circum
stances.

A man in need of $100.00, being too independent to ask a friends or relative to assist him, called upon the Calumet Loan Co. - After a careful investigation of their plans, decided to have them advance him the money, which he found could be repaid in such small payments that he could afford to pay off his obligations and still hare enough ready cash left to purchase necessities with. Mis AcBTvic to do Likewise His advice is to do likewise. You don't have to be a Real Estate owner, all that is necessary is that you are free owners of Furniture, a Piano or Horse and Wagon. Security to remain in ' your possession. By the way, he says that by a stroke of good fortune, he was able to pay off the loan sooner than he anticipated, and much to his surprise and satisfaction without asking was awarded a most liberal rebate. He also advises one, when in need, to be careful of any firm that advertises through their circulars and newspaper columns, rates such as $50.00 at 31.20 Per Week and other amounts in proportion, and to see the Calumet Lean Co even though you hare a loan with any other company, and let them advance you enough to pay them off.
