GIRLS PLAY
SPLENDID
BASKET BALL
, A It had been hoped for, the girls of the Gary high school heiped to redeera the lost prestige of: the local Institution In the basket-ball world when they defeated Michigan City last night at the Washington skating rink by the score of 17 to 13. There was In 'attendance the largest crowd that ever 1 attended a game in Gary, the seats about the rink being crowded to their 'capaelt-, ' Botli sides played a good game, but Gary was about as much better than 'Michigan"" City as the score indicates. 'This was 'due largely to the efforts of Miss Jlllson, one of the Gary forwards, -who' was easily the individual' star of -the game, her basket throwing f being
especially accurate. One of the baskets made would have been considered a difficult feat to perform in a" man's game. - In the first half the game was very even, but towards the close Gary gradually pulled away from their rivals and gained a decisive lead. It was evident that neither team bad very much 'practice. The costumes of the Gary ;girla were unique, they wearing white .sailor blouses. Half of Garv'a points
were mad on four goals by Miss Jrni
son. and Michigan City only scored two. The score: -: - -' " ; Gary (17) Watson, first center; Pryale, second center; Stratton, forward; Jlllson, forward; Carnduff, guard; Harris, guard. ,, - '...-,. ., Michigan City (18) Hannawatt, first center; Shreiber, second center; Peterson, forward; Robinson, forward; Roll, guard; Daggy. guard.
