TELEPHONE COURTESY. No, this is not a dissertation upon the class of adjectives, the pronunciation, or the attitude when talking over the telephone. It is vastly more important for it involves the courtesy that you should show to your friends when they wish to reach you by telephone. ". -
XT 1 .1 . .1 . . ... . .....V.
1 ou Know mat tne busy-signal is annoying. Perhaps you - have tried to reach your friend, only to be repeatedly met by the "buzzer." Possibly you have finally given up in disgust. When you met him the next day he told you tha bell had not run all the evening. He excused himself by criticising the "other parties" who monopolized the service. But that wasn't much -consolation to you, What kind of service are you using? Is it the kind where the "other parties" may monopolize it? Are your friends trying to reach you? Arc they forced to give it up? This is the telephone discourtesy that is most annoying. , Your friend knows you have the service, for your name is . in the book yet he is unable to reach you. And while he is trying to reach your home you sit unconscious of the fact for your telephone partners are blocking the line. The single residence line, is, of course, the best service, for it gives absolute privacy and the line is held for your use alone. But if it is too expensive, the two-party line will probably fill your needs. Two-party residence service is, without question, the next best for the money. It costs but one and a fraction cents per day more than the fourparty line. There is but one other party on the wire. It is available to your friends and they are not forced to hear the busy-signal before reaching you You may use it almost when you wish. Besides, it is more private because you usually know the name of the other party and he won't then interrupt your conversation or attempt to overhear. r r Be cpurteous to your friends. Install a service that will enable them to talk to you without the inconvenience of trying many times before reaching you. Do your share to obviate the busy-signal. Get a two-party or a single line and the benefits to you, yourself, will be welcome. CHICAGO TELEPHONE COMPANY.

the Johnson brand onto as .much mazuma as possible before he has to go into training. There is no law against it and every reason why Jack should make his hay while the sun shines. Johnson is a great spender and it takes a world of money to keep him going; he is making ud for seven long, hungry years. When the men sat down for the first time to discuss way and means of opening the fight to the bids of the various promoters and the division of the possible purse, It was Jim Jeffries who asked for winner take all and a big side bet and it was Johnson's white manager who hastened to sound the safe, sane and conservative note. Johnson said he was willing to fight "win
ner take all," but balked a bit at the side bet. "Here:" InterruDted Johnson's man
ager. "Nothing like that! I don't want to be eating snowballs next winter If anything happens to Johnson in this fight. Let's make it 75 and 25 and the original side bet goes." Johnson's manager showed sound horse sense, to say nothing of the canny instinct of a man already "in" several thousand bones. Johnson never used a manager for anything except to draw money from him.
