RECEIVES SEWS OF DEATH.. Mrs. I Heckelman of Truman avenue received word today of the death of Mrs. C. E. AVeise o fJoliet, 111. Mrs. Weise is the mother of the late Mrs. John Workinger, who formerly lived in Hammond and is known to many Hammond people. The funeral services were held at Joliet Saturday afternoon at 2. p. m. ENGAGEMENT IS AXNOI NCED. The engagement of Miss Frances Hamacher and Mr. James Dixon has been announced informally to the j friends of the young people in Hammond and several delightful parties will be given during the following i weeks. Miss Edith Carter will entertain several young ladies at a kitchen shower next Saturday evening at her, home in Ann street at which Miss Hamacher will be the guest of honor. On the following Wednesday evening, Mrs. Rodney C. Hobbs. Misses Mae Hanson, Margaret Hepner and Muriel Eastwood will entertain in her honor and many other afternoon and evening entertainments are being planned by her many friends. The wedding will occur Wednesday, Dec. 22nd.. and the ceremony will be a very quiet one, with only the immediate families in attendance. After a short wedding visit they will return to Hammond to make their home. They are building a pretty residence in the east end. The announcement of the approaching marriage of Miss Hamacher and Mr. Dixon will be received with a great deal of interest in Hammond where they are very well known. They have made their homes in Hammond for several years, Miss Hamacher being a graduate from ' the high school in the class of 1907 and later attended Eariham college at

She was accompanied home InMrs. Susan Wood, who will spend the winter in Topeka visiting her several relatives. SEWING CIRCLE TO MEET. The members of Sewing Circle No. 1 of St. Margaret's hospital will meet at the home of Mrs. Mat Boney in Clinton street next Tuesday afternoon. The change of the meeting day was made on account of Thanksgiving. The members are all invited to attend and a pleasant social time is anticipated. Cards will be the entertainment for the afternoon. AN EVENING PARTY. Miss Agnes Meikle will entertain the members of the inter he club at a pleasant party tomorrow evening at her home in South Hohman street. An en Joyable time will be spent in the usual way of the club with card games and embroidery work and several of the members expect to attend. ENTERTAINS AT CARDS. Mrs. F. A. Bull will entertain the ladies of the Fern Leaf Linen club Wednesday afternoon instead of Thurs day of tlsls week at her home in State street. Eaton of ' Evanston. 111., will lecture in the auditorium of the First Baptis tchurch this . evening at :in p. ni.. on the subject of "Good Government." Dr. Eaton was in Ham mond on one other occasion last May and those who heard him then will be glad of a second opportunity to hear him on tills subject. Professor Lough of Indianapolis will lecture at the church Tuesday evening, Nov. 23rd. on the same subject. The Baptist orchestra will furnish a program of music at both lectures. One of the most delightful parties of the season in the young society set occurred Saturday evening when the Misses Alfa Kennedy and Zella Irish entertained in honor of their birthday anniversaries. Invitations were issued among the members of the W. B. G. club and the Kbala club and a , few friends to a dinner party at the home of Miss Irish in May street. Miss Irish and Miss Kennedy received informally In the parlors brtween 5:30 and 6 o'clock. They wore very pretty gowns, Miss Kennedy appearing in a dainty yellow and Miss Irish in white. The color scheme was beautifully carried out in yellow and white, the parlors being prettily trimmed with yellow and white chrysanthemums and ferns. At 6 o'clock the guests were invited into the dining room and served with a prettily- arrange! course dinner. At the table the same dainty colors were used in . the decorations. Attractive souvenirs were ued cm the table and large bunches of yellow and white chrysanthemums were-chosen as center pieces.
