A COMMITTEE MEETTXG. The members of the art committee of the Hammond Woman's club will meet Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Nicholas Emmerling, 130 Douglas street. The study for the afternoon will be the life and art of John ConBtable, the English artist. A good attendance of members is desired. 1 fELIGHTFl I. PARTY. One of the very pleasant social functions of the week occurred yesterday afternoon when Mrs. W. E. Russell entertained the members of the Marquette club. It was the regular club party and seventeen members were in attendance. Mrs. John McDt-rmott and Mrs. E. R. Disbrow of Chicago, were out-of-town members present. The guests met at 2:S0 o'clock and spent a very pleasant afternoon playing progressive euchre at small tables in the parlors. The honors at cards were given Mrs. T. E. Bell and Mrs. F. R. Jtfott. A short time was spent in social conversation after which the guests were invited into the dining room and served, with a daintily arranged three course luncheon. A pretty color scheme was carried out in yellow and white aivl tali vases of chrysanthemums were the decorations at the table. The next party will be given in two weeks on Thursday evening and Mrs. Lawrence Cdr and Mrs. W. T. Webb will entertain at the residence of Mrs. Cox in South Hohman street. It will bo the monthly social meeting and the husbands of the members will be the in vited guests. ATTEND FOOTBAUi CJAM3E. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. MEETIXG The regular weekly meeting of the members of the W C. T. V. occurred yesterday afternoon at the Home of Mrs. H. E. Granger in Hamlin street. There was a good attendance of mem bers and the routine business was disposed of in the early afternoon. Other business of Interest to the members was disposed of and the remainder of the afternoon was devoted to the tem perance program. A short social hour followed when the members met for conversation. Arrangements were made for the next meeting which will be held next Friday afternoon at the home or Mrs. Meyers, the corner of Michigan and Oakley avenues. The marriage of Miss Esther Dia mond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Diamond, and Mr. A. Colin will occur next Sunday. Miss Diamond has a wide acquaintance of friends in Hammond and the announcement of her approacning marriage win nring her many congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Mayer Rubin of East ; Plbley street announce the engagement of their daughter. Miss Anna Rubin, to Mr. Joseph Welman of Washingtn. D. I C. The marriage will not occur until some time after the holiday season, the date for the ceremony having not been chosen. Miss Rubin went to Washing ton last August for an extended visit with her uncles, Messrs B. and Joseph Klawans. and it was during lier visit there that she met Mr. Welman. They I will come to Hammond in December and visit Mr. and Mrs. Rubin and also spend several days In Chicago where Miss Rubin has several relatives. The announcement of the engagement of Miss Rubin to Mr. Welman will be received with interest In Hammond soIciety circles where Miss Rubin has
been very prominent. She attended the Hammond high school, but left Hammond a few years ago to study voice and piano at a Chicago conservatory of music. She has been on the concert stage in Chicago and last spring gave a short program at a concert given by the Jewish society ladies on- the south side. Miss Rubin has given programs at a few Hammond entertainment! since he graduation from the conservatory and during her residence in Hammond took part in several home talent plays. Miss Rubin is a very talented young lady and her many Hammond friends will regret to have her leave to make her home in the east. Mr. Welman is a prominent young man and Is employed in the treasury department of the Capitol building in Washington.

The funeral has been arranged for tomorrow morning. Services win be held at the late home and from there the remains will be taken to Chicago on the 10:14 Nickel Plate for interment in Waldhelm cemetery. The trip from the Chicago depot to the cemetery will be made by carriage. Mrs. 'Williams is survived by her two children and lier husband, who is a switchman on the Nickel Plate railroad.
