Although there has been no formal

announcement, it has become known in

local social circles that Mrs. Nellie Dunham Bicknell is engaged to be married to Henry Kramer, a well-to-

date business man of Slireveport, La.

It is understood that the marriage of Mr. Kramer Is as much of a surprise to his friends in Shrevoport as it is to the host of friends of Mrs. Dunham in this city. Mr. Kramer is about 40 years of age and was considered a confirmed bachelor until he met the charming Hammond woman, and aft

er a brief courtship the engagement resulted. In fact, there is something of a romance in the meeting of the couple, who are to be married in this city next spring. Mrs. Dunham has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. William Green, president of the Cotton Belt railroad, in the south. It was during one of these visits last year that Mrs. Dunham met the brilliant and well educated young bachelor to whom she is to be married- The friends of both Mrs. Dunham and Mr.

Kramer looked with favor upon the

match, and when the fact of the en

gagement became known the intimate

friends of the couple In Shreveport made haste to congratulate them both

upon their choice. Mr. Kramer is engaged .n the lum

ber business. The company, which

bears his name, is . engaged in supply

ing railroad ties and barrel staves to

the railroads and larger coopers of the country. The business is a very successful one and Mr. Kramer is said

to have large Interests in the south,
