Hammond next Saturday will be in the hands of the tag day girls, and the city, in order to do its civic justice on this red. letter day, is expected to contribute not less than $1,000, and possibly $2,000, for charity's sake. Hammond is looking forward to the day with a good deal of expectancy. The men especially are eager to earn the smiles of the -pretty girls that will

be stationed on every prominent corner in the city, and husband who are wont . to take their envelopes home on Saturday nights unopened to their spouses may violate this unwritten law without fear of having to answer the question: "What did you do with it?" Committer Meeting Tonight. Little time remains for hte Jewish Ladies' Aid society and the philanthropic department of the Hammond Woman's club, who are the joint promoters to do any advance work for the day. A committee from each organization will meet this evening at the home of Mrs. Leo Wolf, on Rimbach avenue, and there plan further ways and means for the success of the day. These ladies have already done much charity work and are in a position to knowwhere their efforts to help poor people are most needed. They say that while returning prosperity is at the door there will nevertheless be much suffering this winter, and much of It will be in families who are too proud to ask for aid. Then, know many cases where a well directed dollar will help a suffering mother on whom a large familydepends, but too is too weakntntnno depends, but she too is too weak to work, or where another gift which some generous man will give next Saturday will keep a boy in school for a time longer in order that be may gain an education. Systematic AVorlt Armnged. The whole project has the indorsement of the business men in general, and today many a young fellow who' spends a certain allowance carelessly every week is resolving to ocntribute his share toward the relief of the suffering. The high school will practically turn out in a body next Saturday to the tagging- and by the end of the week the support of all the larger girls in all the schools will have been solicited. The girls will be on duty only during the day time and will be relieved by the married ladies of the committee after d usk. In order tliat'there
