1 THE

NATURE CHUM

XVhat is the secret of Jack Johnson's' Success in the ring? That sounds like an easy question, doesn't it? But there isn't one ring fan in twenty who could give the correct answer to it; that is, answer it the same way that Johnson himself does. The champion on Kfs return from Detroit yesterday was asked this question and h-; answered it hy asking the same query. "Tour extremely clever boxing," was the first reply he got from the crowd that surrounded, him. "Well, that helps some, I must admit," said the dusky champion, "but thpt is not the real reason for my success. " "Your speed and ability to conserve your strength in a hard fight," was the next guesa from the crowd. Johnson shook his head again, and only l.iughed as he listened to other Kuosses, which varied from his singeing power to his ability to take punishment, and finally, wishing to get away from the bunch far an auto srin, Jack said: "Now, I'll tip off this nig secret, for it sure, is a secret. It's not my hitting ability, reach, ability to run or anything of that sort that has made rno charrpion. It's something ' that can't knock a fellow out, but it has kept me from taking the count on several occasions. It's nothing but my pood nature. 'Oo,ti nature is a funny thing to

win fights with, but that's just what helped mo whip Tommy Burns and is going to be one of my chief assets against Jeff. Here is how my good disposition whips the ether fellows: It makes me a good ring general. I never bear any malice toward a man I fight, and for that reason never lose my head in a ring. No matter how much my opponent reviles me, I just keep turning on that 'golden smile' as they call it, and remain cool. If I didn't have a good nature I would be sore as quickly as I was called a name and would lose

my head and my championship along

with it.

"When I fought Burns he called me everything he could think of. He

thought he would get my goat, but Mr.

Johnson's angora was in pretty good

shape when the fight was over.

Jerrries nas been trying the same

tactics, but I bear him no malice, and I am not going to. I am going to be

just as cool as I was against Burns,

and that's one of the reasons why

am going to whip Jeff and put him out

of the ring and off the stage."

Johnson will open up his theatrical

work Sunday at the Star and Garter,

where he'll show a week. He Inspected his new automobile while In Ietroit

and expects to have it In Chicago about

Sunday.

"I just know I am going to get into trouble when I get this car." said Jack, "for it runs seventy-two miles an hour. I don't see how I am going to make

it behave all of the time."

You know what the average price of land is throughout the middle west from $100 to $150 an acre. But here in the very heart of Wisconsin lies over a halfmillion acres with the same soil and the same climate as the other lands, yet thrown on the market at from $6 to $20 an acre. Ten Years to Pay This land has been held by the lumbermen until stripped of its timber, and now it is thrown open to farmers. One man recently bought some $15 land and after clearing and cultivating it sold the land for $50 an acre and reinvested the profits in other land here. He is even now a wealthy man. You can buy this land by paying one-third down and the balance within ten years. Sup

pose you select some $15 land. Pay $5 an acre down and you can own an eighty-acre farm for only $400. And the value grows with great rapidity. Wisconsin ths Dairy State Wisconsin butter, cream and cheese command a premium in every market. Rich, thick clover and pure spring water, with a mild climate, make dairying ideal. Four cows usually yield $200 a year in butter and $150 in beef. Clover grows so abund? tly as to bring $10 an acre ; the meadow. Sugar beets, tobacco and grain all yield the most plentiful crops.
