BETTING If GARY

AT A STANDSTILL

Betting in Gary has now practically

ceased, as not a dollar of Knotts mon

ey is In sight even with the odds

tq 1 on Brennan. At least five thou

sand dollars of Brennan backing can be secured at this figure, and there has

been over two hundred dollars of

placed at any odds. The best that the

dopestcrs could see for Knotts at any

stage of the game was an even chance and now they maintain that Brennan has twice the chance that Knotts has

to be the next mayor of Gary.

it is remarkable the way that the

doubtful ones, who always wait to see which way the wind Is blowing before

they get in the band wagon, now clam

oring to get in the good graces of the

republican party. It looks like a re

puDiican landslide which will burv

Knotts and Crollus so deep that they

win never know that they are run ning.

Make Hundred of Votes for Brennan.

The result of the Knotts primaries last night made hundreds of votes for the republicans. The Jewish taxpayers

ran for councilman In the city and with

tne large numDer wnich were in the

city the Knotts-Cain-Dave Johnson ma

u"ur iciuacu 10 anow mem to get on

the ticket. In consequence most of the

Jewish people are stampeding to get in

the republican bandwagon. The same thing happened to the Rou manians. With five hundred Rouman ian votes In the third ward, the demo crats refused to nominate their candi

date and put In another man. Dozens

of democratic Roumanians attended the republican meeting last night in Pet-

rovic's hall. In : te of the attempt by the police to keep them away.
