NEW FOULARDS FOR WINTER WEAR.

Paris dressmakers are building pretty gowns of foulard for house and

restaurant wear, the new foulards being deemed sufficiently rich in char

acter to rank with heavier silks of winter wear. Of course, however, the foulard frock when worn on the street or in a carriage or motor car will

be well covered by a long topcoat of wool or fur. This rose-colored gown

which, bv the way, shows the new Drecoll three-puff sleeves, is accompanied

by a cream lace hat edged with roso velvet and trimmed with a mercury

wing made of rose-colored sequins.

bers of the Embroidery club yesterdav afternoon which was the regular

meeting day. Announcement will' be made later of the place of meeting for

the next party.

A SURPRISE PARTY. A very pleasant party was given as a surprise to Frank Gruenwald at his home in Michigan avenue last evening. The party was given to celebrate his birthday anniversary and he received several gifts in remembrance of the day. A very pleasant social evening was spent with various social games and music until a late hour, when a dainty course supper was served. The evening was reported as having been a very pleasant social success except for an accident that occurred to members of the party on their' return home. Tn driving home the members of the Prohl

family came near meeting with a serious accident when the horse ran away ar.d badly frightened the ladies of the party. They escaped, however, with nothing more serious than the demolishing of a new hat belonging to Henry Prohl. The guests at the party were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gruenwald, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gruenwald. Careless With Gates. Last night when the 9:55 Motion train came in from Chicago there was not a gate lowered, either at the Hohman street or tiie State street crossings. The train came in at a very rapid rate of speed, and had it not been for the fact that the traffic on these streets were light an accident might have occurred.

Chizolla Case Settled. The Chizzola case, which Involved the possession of an automobile which had been the property of the American Morse Automobile company, was settled last night, when this company paid M. L. Chizzolla S0O in $100 bills for his Interest in the demonstrating car. This closes a case that was full of incidents. The car, which lias been In the possession of the sheriff, was released, but it was discovered that the crank shaft had been broken. Mr. Chizzolla is satisfied with the settlement.

Try Condemnation Case. The trial of the case of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern railroad vs. Reynolds, involving the condemnation of the portion of the right of way of this railroad, is on trial in the Lake superior court this afternoon.

One Charged With Arson. Vosa Lociiansha, the proprietor of the saloon in the Standard district, which several men tried to set afire, has been held under J1.000 bunds. The other five men were released. It is said that there was evidence sufficient to warrant the holding of the boy to the juvenile court, but the case against him was not pressed. The evidence revealed the fact that there was a conspiracy to burn the saloon and get the $500 insurance on the saloon fixtures and that one, and possibly two others, were involved in the attempt. The others have disappeared.

stories are among the pleasantest features of her program. Mrs. Sims is enthusiastically received in every

southern city and her entertainments are always a pleasant social event. It is expected that many Hammond people will hear her at her entertainment

here Thursday.

There was not as large an attendance as had been expected on account of other social attractions, but those who were present report having had an un
