Philadelphia. Oct. 2. The white ox
closed their eastern season with a 4 to
3 victory over the Athletics yesterday, and last night started for Detroit to
meet the 1909 champs tomorrow. The
winning run was scored In the ninth. Olmstead and Bender were the pitchers and the Indian had much the better of
twelve hits to their credit etaointa
the youngster, for the Athletics had
twelve hits off Olmstead while only
eight were charged up to the chief.
Mack's elephants have ceased to be
an attraction in their home city for the fans deserted them yesterday. Less than 600 people were on hand to wit
ness the last game with a vestern team. The senators will be here today for a double-header, which will wind up the season instead of extending the season over until next Monday. The home team made a strong bid for the game in the ninth after the sox had pushed the winning run over the plate and two doubles were made In that final rally. Bender made the first
long hit, but he tried to stretch his
drive into a three-bagger and was nailed at third. Rath followed him with
another two-bagger, which would have scored him If he had been content to
take only two bases.

With one eye on their positions and the other glued on Manager Chance, the cub zepos did their prettiest yesterday at the west side park and blanked Anson's Colts, 9 to 0. The recruits were desirous of nailing down a soft berth with the ex-champs next season, and regretted that "Husk," the boss, was so far distant that they
couldn't see how he liked their work.
In many respects they made a neat impression, especially so in the cases of Cole, Hart and Davidson. All that has been said about Davidson's speed still holds good. He stole three bases
and made as many runs.
