Miss Ellen Clark will entertain the young ladies of the Inter Se club this evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George A. A. Mason in Rimbach avenue. It is the first social meeting after the summer vacation and a very enjoyable time is anticipated. IS REPORTED ILL. Miss Etta Gastel is reported to be quite 111 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gastel, 146 Williams street. Her many friends hope that she will soon recover. IS REPORTED ILL. Mr. O. W. Harding, formerly of Hammond, but now of Highlands, is reported to be quite 111 and confined to his home. MRS. WALTZ ENTERTAINS. Mrs. Waltz will entertain the members of Sewing Circle No. 1, of St. Margaret's hospital, Thursday at her home In East State street. It will be the regular meeting and the usual at tendance of ladles is expected. Cards will be the feature of entertainment for the afternoon and a very pleas ant time is anticipated. HERE ON BUSINESS. Among the out-of-town business men in Hammond today are August and John Jarnecke of Saxony and Attorney Frank Gavit of Whiting. A CLUB PARTY. Mrs. Charles Miller will have the ladies of the Fern Leaf Linen club as her guests next Thursday afternoon at her home in South Hohman street. A very pleasant social time will be spent playing cards and several games of pedro will be played. VISITS WITH FRIENDS. Miss Ida Winer of Crown Point visited with Miss Marie Hansen of Rimbach avenue today on her way to Indiana Harbor where she will spend a few days with relatives. A LARGE CHURCH WEDDING. A very pretty wedding was solemnized this morning at St. Andrew's Catholic church in West Hammond when Miss Mary Lewandowskl and Mr. Frank Szewka were united in marriage. The hour for the ceremony was nine o'clock and as the briaal procession entered the church, a very pretty program of music was rendered. They came do-n the long central aisle of the church to the altar where the ceremony of the church was read.

using the pretty ring ceremony. The bride wore avery elaborate , gown jpf baby blue ribbon and valencennes lace. The dress had trimmings of heavy Im ported lace. She wore a long tulle veil caught to her hair with a wreath of flower. She carried an arm bou quet of bride's roses and' lllieS-of-the-yalley." Miss Lillian Lewandowskl. who served her as maid of honor," wore a similar gown of ribbon .and J ace. Her flowers -were white roses. The groom was attended by his brother, Tony Szewka. At the close of the church ceremony" the relatives and a few in timated friends went to the home of the bride's parents where a reception was given in honor of the newly married couple. A wedding breakfast was served at 12 o'clock and the remainder of the day was spent in a pleasant social way. Mr. and Mrs. Szewka .did not leave on a wedding trip, but will go immediately to their home, which has bee nnicely furnished. They re ceived many valuable gifts from their friends. They are both well known In West Hammond circles and will receive the congratulations and best wishes of many friends on the an nouncement of their marriage. A BUSINESS TRIP. J. W. Reed and Leland Reed were in Crown Point yesterday on a day's business visit. ACME CLUB TO MEET. The ladles of the Acme Social club will spend a pleasant afternoon Thurs day at the home of Mrs. C. B. Miller in Clinton street. It is expected that all the members will attend and spend an enjoyable social time playing cards. Pedro will be the feature of the after noon. A GUILD MEEING. The members of the Ladles' Guild of St. Paul's Episcopal church will meet Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock In the guild room of the church in Rimbach. It is the first meeting after the long summer vacation and it Is desired that there be a large at tendance at the meeting. There will be business to be disposed of. VISITS RELATIVES. Mrs. Herbert Jones and daughter, Beatrice, of Crown Point came to Ham mond today to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jen kins at their home in the north side. LEAVE FOR KANSAS. Miss Genie Klelnfelter of Crown Point passed through Hammond today on her way to Kansas where she will make her home with her parents and engage in teaching in the publio schools there. Miss Klelnfelter was graduate of the Crown Point high school In the class of 1909 and spen the summer at the Valparaiso normal school. A COMMITTEE MEETING. The members of the literature com mittee of the Hammond Woman's club are meeting this afternoon at 2:3 o'clock at the home of the chairman Mrs. E. P. Demlng In Carroll street It is the first meeting of the commit tee ladles after the long summer va cation and It was expected that the entire afternoon will be . spent so dally. The members of the Ladies Aid so cietv of the First Presbyterian church will meet Wednesday afternoon of thi week in the parlors of the church. Mr Joseph Thompson and Mrs. Harry Smith will be hostesses for the afternoon an will serve refreshments during the so clal hour. A large attendance of mem bers is desired. RETURNS FROM MICHIGAN. Mrs. Joseph Dorsey and Mrs. Ma garet Hastings, both of West Stat street, returned home this mornin from Detroit. Mich., where they wen last Friday and spent a delightful fe days' with relatives of Mrs. Dorsey. RETURNS FROM EUROPE. Mr. and Mrs. M. Rothschild are e pected to return home this evenln from their European trip. They hav been absent from Hammond for thr months, and spent a very delightful summer in Germany, France and Swlt erland. The greater part of the time o this visit was spent In Germany Frankfurt-am-Rhlne. Mr. and Mr Rothschild have made several visits Europe. NOTICE. A very delightful party was given as a surprise to Mrs. Heins last evening at her home, 886 Grover street. The party was given to celebrate her fortyeighth birthday anniversary, and she received many pretty gifts from her friends in remembrance of the day. A verys prettily arranged course dinner was served at 6 o'clock. The guests were seated at three long tables. The decorations at the tables were carnations and ferns, and a very pretty color scheme was carried out In the dining room. The evening was spent In social conversation. music and dancing. A very delightful meeting of the members of the Embroidery club took place yesterday afternoon and Mrs. G. H. Austin entertained at her home In Carroll street. It was the regular .weekly club party, and several of the members were present. Mrs. Austin lso had a few Invited friends as guests for the afternoon. A very pleasant time was spent with embroidery and social conversation until late in the afternoon he hostess served a dainty course luncheon. The arrangements for the next meeting were not completed yes terday. The invited guests were Mrs. Walker of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. O. A, Krinbill and Mrs. Robert Gillls. The members present were: Mesdames Charles Albert Smith. Victor Dyer, David Emery. I. E. Dickinson, H. E. Sharrer, Ralph Pierce and Miss Alice Holm. MRS. YARCK A HOSTESS. Mrs. John Yarck of Douglas avenue will entertain the members of the La dies' Aid society of the German Luther an church of Orland, 111., tomorrow at her home. The guests are expected to arrive in Hammond early in the day and will be served with a prettily ar ranged dinner at 12 o'clock, and after pleasant social afternoon another luncheon will be served. Abou twenty ladies will be guests, and a very enjoy able day is anticipated. A BUSINESS MEETING. The members of the third division of the Ladies' Aid society of the First Methodist church met last evening at the home of Mrs. A. S. Hunt, in Oakley avenue, for a business meeting. Ar rangements were completed for the chicken pie supper, to be given in the church, next Tuesday evening. Oct. 5th. The public Is invited to attend. AN AFTERNOON PARTY. Mrs. E. F. The meeting is called for 7:30 o'clock, and It is desired that all the members meet promptly. Busl ness of Importance In regard to th program for the next public meeting o the club, which will occur next Satur day at the First Presbyterian church will be transacted. The members of"?fc committee are arranging a very inter estlng program, and a large attendance is desired at the meeting. TAKE PART IN PARADE. Quite a number of Hammond citl zens participated in the temperance parade which took place in Chicagro last Saturday. Others went to the city to watch the procession and all report the event a worthy demonstration bearing tfstimony to the progress of the cause in whose name it was con ducted. . The procession was made up of 25.000 white ribboners who marched down State street singing songs of victory and carrying banners bearing appropriate inscriptions and mottoes. Eac hof the several divisions was headed by its own band. Among those who marihed in the parade were the following from Hammond: Messrs, and Mesdames William Mason. R. Thompson, P. George. E. Wright H. Fryer and Furner; Mesdames H. E. Harris Ghelraa, IT. E. Granger, president of the local W. C. T. V.; Miss Ripley, Messrs. Rev. II. Thompson pastor of the Xazarene church: I.. Wright. IT. Merrill. W. Yoder, Tollard and Master E. Granger. PLEASANT SI RPRISE PARTY. A very pleasant surprise party was liven Saturday evening in honor of Mr. Casper Camp at his home T5 Oakley avenue, it being Mr. Camp's fortieth birthday anniversary. He received an elegant initial ring in remembrance of the day. At 11 o'clock a very elaborate supper was served and very enjoyable time was spent.
