New Aspirant for Political Honors Is Popular in Gary and Affiliated With Lodge and Business Circles.

the small boys and girls of the neighborhoo.l had taken possession of the place for a bis playhouae. A Stw Kind of Tenant. No one but the owner knew who the occupants were and no one knew where they hadigone. All of the furniture still remained intact, however, seemingly in payment of obligations due and which they could not mfct. If the latter be the case the lawyers say that an entire new brand of tenants has been discovered, a like special of which is to be found in no other city of the country of which they have

' knowledge. Seabright and "White will go a little further in th-3 case to find out what , disposition can be made of the goods j in the event tl.at Kummerer cannot be

fought to serve the writ of attachment for the goods which he left behind him. The police have been asked to watch the house pending the disposition oT the furniture.

The political pot In Gary is still boil

ing wi'.h renewed activity, and each day the name of some new aspirant for political honors in the new steel city appears upon the horizon. The latest of these to make an official announcement is Joseph "V. Cothery, who seeks the nomination for city clerk on the republican ticket. While the name of Mr. Cothery has been among those mentioned in the local papers, still Mr. Cothery could n-at be prevailed upon to make the -ac( until he was approached by a large number of his friends a few days ago. It was then that Mr. Cothery decided to become a candidate. One of CUj-'h r.nrllet Keftldents. Mr. Cothery is employed in the auditing department of the oleal steel mills, and is one of the earliest residents of Gary, coming here in 1906. He is a member of the local order of Elks. and. at the Institution of the local Masonic lodge, will have the honor' of presiding over the lodge as the first master in Gary, lie is also a shriner, being a member of the "Hot Sands" club of Gary. Altogether he is one of the most popular young men in Gary, having a large number of friends, who will boost his candidacy for the clerkship and try to place bini in the chair. There are now three candidates out for tile republican nomination of city clerk, they being "William Mathew Dunn and M. Johnson. Clyde Hunter, whose name has been mentioned last night as

a candidate, denied that he was out for the nomination. Mr. Dunn is prominent In union labor circles. Mr. Cothery was especially prominent during the last campaign, when he had charge of the naturalization of the foreigners of Gary, and for which work he was greatly commended.

A peculiarity about the disaster was that one bolt struck two barns, which were nearly a quarter of a mile apart. There was a mass of flames immediately, and nothing could be done to save them.

Having a "hunch" that the furniture In hi3 house was about to be aS.ached for nonpayment of rent, E. A. Yesterday the writ of attachment was finally secured by the owners. Attorneys leabright and White, for $35 rent due them and the papers were turned over into the hands of Constable William Marquardt. The latter went to the address to serve them and to his surprise found the Amirs unlocked and not a soul in the house. Neighbors informed him that the residents had left two days ago and that

The price of milk in Gary has gone up again. After paying seven cents a quart all summer local householders are now paying eight cents per quart, and probably the price will never be lower in Gary. The increase in price went into effect in Gary last week and all the milk dealers are. now charging a uniform price, according to Edward F, Render, proprietor of the. Willow Creek jdairy of Gary. The cost of producing milk and the increase in the price of ice is responsible for the raise. After Oct. 1 the cost of an eight-gallon can of milk will be riised to $1.65 instead of ?1.2n, the present price. This meant that the dealer must put up his price a cent a quart in order to break even.
