Wilcox of Conkey avenue will leave Hammond tomorrow for an extended visit. They will spend a few days at Niagara Falls, Toronto and other Canadian cities returning to Hammond by way of the Thousand Islands. W. C. T. V. MEETING. The first meeting of the W. C. T. V. is taking place this afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. E. Granger in Hamlin street. A full attendance of members was desired and an invitation to attend the meeting was extended every one interested in temperance work. The meetings promise to be interesting. A MISSIONARY MEETING. The Woman's Missionary Society of the First Presbyterian church is meeting this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Edith Griffin, 120 Ogden street for the regular monthly study. A very interesting program had been arranged by the committee and a large attendance of members was desired. A social hour was announced to follow the study. RETURN FROM VISIT. Mrs. William H. Putney and grand daughter of 818 Indiana avenuo have returned home from a week's visit with Mrs. M. Winters at Monterey, Ind. RETIRNS HOME TODAY. Thev will also visit at Washington and Philadelphia and other eastern points and expect to be gone about a month. RETIRNS HOME. Miss Vera Culp has returned to her home in Kokomo, Ind., after a pleasant few weeks' visit with Miss Ferrol Dickover at her home in East State street. LEAVE FOR WISCONSIN. HOLD REGULAR MEETING. The members of the Hammond Motor Boat club met last evening in the club house for the regular business meet ing. The usual number of members were present and disposed of the routine business during the evening. Mr. E. E. Fricke was elected secre tary, the office left vacant by the resig nation of Alfred Sherby. VISITS IN MICHIGAN. Mrs. Carrie Parsons hase gone to His. peria, Mich to be the guest of her sis ter, Mrs. A. D. Heimbaugh for several days. MRS. HII.HRICH ENTERTAINS. The members of the Sewing Circle No. 2 of St. Margaret's hospital spent a very pleasant day yesterday at the home of Mrs. Frank Hllbrich in Douglas street. It was the regular meeting of the society and many of the members were present. The afternoon was spent in the usual enjoyable way of the society and cards were the prin clpal feature of entertainment. Several games of pedro were played and the honors were given to Mrs. Jacob Weis. Mrs. Austeen and Mrs. Burgman. Mrs. Joseph Kasper very delightfully entertained the members of the NoName club yesterday afternoon at her home in East State street. It was the regular club party and all of the members were present to enjoy of cards. Several gajne sof pedro were played and the honors at the games were given to Mrs. George Raymus, Mrs. F. A. Bull and Miss Anna Rohrman. The consolation prize was given to Mrs. T. Hart. The remainder of the afternoon was spent In an enjoyable social way with conversation and music until a daintily arranged course luncheon was served. Refreshments were served at small tables in the parlors. The next party will be given in two weeks and Mrs. Raymus will entertain at her home in RImbach avenue. A SOCIAL MEETING. ' The members of the Martha Aid So ciety of the First Christian church celebrated social day yesterday and Mrs. George Green entertained the members of the society and their friend sat her home in East State street. It was the regular meeting day of the society and many of the mem bers were in attendance. A neat sum was realized for the benefit of the new church building fund from the ad mission charged. The guests were asked to pa-y as many pennies as their waist or arm measured. In the early afternoon the opening exercises were a feature, after which there were sev eral guessing contests. Mrs. Archie Cross of Chicago was present during the afternoon and entertained during the social hour. Dainty refreshments were served. Arrangements wre made to have the next meeting at the home of Mrs. C. Murray, 333 East Slbley strect next Thursday afternoon. A large attendance is desired as arrangements will be completed for a "Fish Fry" to be given Thursday evening, Sept. 2. AN ENJOYAHI.E TRIP. Mr. and Mrs. Grant W. Hunter of South Hohman street will leave tomorrow on an enjoyable trip. They will leave in their canoe "The Alma" for Peoria, 111., to attend a water carnival. The trip will be made through the Calumet river, I,cke Michigan, the canal and the Illinois river to Peoria. They expect to make the trip in two days if the weather conditions are fa vorable. They will be entertained in Peoria for a week or two and anticipate a very delightful time. A l'LEASAST PARTY. The ladles of the Silver Ieaf club were the guests of Mrs. Roy Gassett at her home in Union avenue, Chicago, yesterday at a very delightful afternoon party. Many of the Hammond club ladies were present anO report having had a very enjoyable time. The afternoon was spent In playing pedro and the honors at the party were given to Mrs. Waller, Mrs. A. Y. Crlsman and Mrs. Fred Kralowitz. The re mainder of the afternoon was spent with social conversation and music until the hostess served a dainty course luncheon. The next party will occur in two weeks and Mrs. Fred Kralowitz will he hostess. AX Ol T-OE-TOW.V PARTY. Several Hammond ladies, members of the Ia uhters of liberty went to Merrillville yesterday where they were pleasantly entertained hy Mr. and Mrs. Byron Burse at her home there. Mrs. FnrRc formerly lived in Hammond and every summer entertains in honor of the Hammond couneil. The trip was made over the f'., C ,t I and upon arriving at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. I'.urKe they were met by the hostess. Several enjoyable social features had been planned for the day and the Hammond guests report having had a very pleasant scia! time. At noon they went to a hall where covers were laid and an elaborate course dinner was served. The ahles were prettily decorated with flowers and ferns. The following were present: Mesdames Henry Eurge. Harry Rurge, William Flannlgan, Hunter, Hudson, Frame, Parker, Iueas and James from Hammond and the following were guests from Merrinville. Mrs. H. I Iddings. Mrs. Zuvers. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Burge, Mi. and Mrs. Ralph Pierce. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Burge, Misses Clara, Eva and Bertha Burge.
Withdraws His Charges. In the case of Ray Porller vs. Edith R. Porller, he withdraws certain allegations in the complaint wherein the complaint alleged and charged Edith R. Porller with ke-eping company and cohabiting with other men. On further investigation the plaintiff finds this charge to be untrue, and in fairness to his wife, he has withdrawn the charge of her cohabiting and going with other men.
