Two Whom It May Concern: Notice is hereby given to the owners of real estate situate within the corporate limits of the City of Hammond, that under and by virtue of tne provisions of an ordinance of the Common Council of the City of Hammond, in force June 1st, 1909, it is made the duty of every person, firm or corporation owning, leasing or controlling any vacant or unimproved property within the limits of the City of Hammond, or the lessees or managers of any such real estate, to remove therefrom all undergrowth, thistles, weeds, brush and vegetation of every kind whatsover before the first day of August of each and every year, and that upon the failure of any such person, firms or corporations, lessees or managers of unimproved property situate within the city of Hammond to remove therefrom the thistles, weeds, brush or under

growth upon said unimproved property, the City of Hammond shall proceed to cause the same to he removed at the cost of the owner, manager or lessee thereof and keep an accurate and itemized statement of the amount of time and labor required to remove the same, and upon the completion of the work, the cost thereof shall be certified to the Treasurer of the City of Hammond, Lake County. Indiana, who shall enter the cost thereof upon the tax duplicate against the lots, tracts or parcels of land from which any undergrowth, thistles, weeds or brush hag been removed, and the same shall be collected, together with all penalties and interest, in the event of non-payment thereof, in the same manner that the law now provides for the collection of City taxes. Every person, firm or corporation owning unimproved real estate within the City of Hammond, the lessees or managers of any such persons are therefore hereby notified that in the event of the brush, thistles, weeds and undergrowth are not removed from their unimproved propertv before the first day of August, 1S09, the Board of Public Works will take the steps neces

sary to cause the same to be removed and will further take the necessary steps to cause the same to be entered upon the tax duplicate and the collection thereof enforced in the same manner as other City taxes. In addition to the right on the part of the City to cause the removal of such weeds, thistles, brush and undergrowth, said ordinance provides for the prosecution against any person, firm or corporation for permitting the same to grow upon their unimproved property within the City of Hammond under a penalty of One Hundred Dollars for each and every offense.
