THEWS HAVE CHANGED ICE THEN

Friday, Saturday and Sunday the

Gary police made twelve arrests for

intoxication. This is on an average of four per day and for a "dry" town the average is an unusual one. When Gary had 106 saloons four arrests daily for

drunkenness was a pretty good day's work.

It must not be inferred from this that all of the men who were arrested obtained their drink in Gary Perhaps six of the twelve became Intoxicated here, but the others went elsewhere, bought their liquor, came back to Gary, drank it and finally landed in the jail. East Chicago seems to be a favorite place for those who cannot procure intoxicants in Gary. Every evening a number of men journey to the adjoining town. Some go there to get intoxicated on the spot, while others merely have a jug filled and come back to Gary to empty it. Still others are acquainted with the numerous blind pigs which are said to infest the south end and they obtain their liquor in these resorts if they know the ropes.
