f ry detail. The. bridal company entered the parlor, unattended, at the appointed hour, where they were met by the Hfv. Claus, who pronounced the ceremony. The ring ceremony was used. The service took place beffcre an altar banked with palms and brrual flowers. The home was very prettily decorated for the ceremony, carrying out a dainty color scheme. From the chandeliers in the parlors of the home were suspended hanging backets of ferns and flowers. Immense bunches of pink roses and pink and white sweet peas were used in conspicuous places in the parlors, and added much to the attractiveness of the roonu. After the ceremony a daintily arranged., course wedding supper was served in the diningroom, where the
same pretty color scheme prevailed Emily and Bertha Ebert.
The tables were arranged with bunches of sweet peas. Mr. and Mrs. Rohde will not leave on a wedding trip, but will remain at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Smalley, 305 Soutli Hohnian street, for the present. The at-home cards read after June 1. when they will receive their many friends. century. Had he remained a member I
of that temple for another year

temple, have been entitled to a llfe membership in one of the oldest and. most famous Shrines in the United j
States. Instead he handed his card to Illustrious Potentate H. E. Sharrer of
Oak Temple, Hammond, and will hereafter be identified with this organiza
tion.
The scene at the banquet table was magnificent one. All of the guests
wore the fez and sat about a "U" shaped table. The banquet hall was

bill, on the pretense of giving Ham
mond home rule when in fact he want
ed to appoint the police commisloners
for the purpose of strengthening his political machine, A. F. Knotts was hit
ting such licks in the interest of Horn mond's bill that he was the consterna
tion of the Gary men and was recog
nized by both the Hammond republi
cans and the democrats, who fought side by side for that bill, as one of the
most efficient fighters at the state capital.
Rrpublicuiia Must Ilnve n Fighter. The Hammond republicans have been
casting over the field. They realize
that the man who defeats Iawrence Becker or the candidate of the democratic party selects will have to be a
fighter. They name over the men who have been suggested from time to time, and only when they come to the name of A. F. Knotts do they arrive at the
conclusion that the will fill the bill in this respect.
From the conversations of scores of
republicans, it Is clear that they do not want a man who will say "Yes, the democratic administration lias given us a fair admlnlstraton, but we want you to vote for a man who gave and wll give us a better one."
What the republicans of Hammond
want Is a candidate who will rip the
present city administration up the back and down again. Point out the lack of
progressivenees. show where false econ
omies have In reality been gross ex
travagances, show how the police department, which Becker did not con
trol, has been denied everything it asked, while the fire department, which Becker did control, has been given everything it asked.
Hlehord Sclinnf Wnn Acceptable. The republicans are ready to rally
around any man who will get out and
fight. They would have made IIck Schaaf their nominee in a minute of he had but signified his intention of being a candidate. Many of them are saying, "Knotts is the only man who will Srlve us the scrap we want; who will beard the democratic lion In his den.', They don't want the municipal campaign to be any more, of a compromise than the county campaign was. Kvery bodys knows that Pick Schaaf did not compromise on a single vote. The office of mayor is open to any
man who will redeem Hammond from democracy, and the average republican is aware of the fact that there are very few men who dare undertake the responsibility. It is suggested in some quarters that Mr. Knotts might be assailed on his street car franchise record, but a comparison, paragraph for paragraph, of the franchise that Mayor I!eck-r recently gave to his political friends will instantly quiet any argument along this line and besides the character of the service and the proposed extensions on the present street railway, they say, compares very favorably to the service that the Gary Interurban line is giving in Gary, and consequently the service that the people of Hammond may expect here.
Tired of Standing; Still. Above all, the friends of the exmayor say that the people of Hammond are tired of stagnation. The people on the North side have rebelled against
It and have repeatedly denounced the present administration. The people of the East side have rebelled against the delay in opening the Columbian avenue bridge and the people of the South side have been assessed to death for a widened street that is the greatest
Is the faithful old Watch giving you trouble and annoyance? Is age beginning to tell on the dear old comrade?
