A COMING MARRIAGE. Th bans of the marriage of Miss Martha. Shaffer to St. Werkowskl will be .read for the first time Sunday in St. Andrews' Catholic church In West Hammond. The wedding will occur some time In May and great preparations are being made for the event In the. society circles where the young people are known. . Both young people are popular in West Hammond and the announcement of their coming marriage will be received with Interest. A SCHOOL irXTERTAIXMENT. The young people went to Chicago yesterday and a very quiet ceremony took place in the office . of the Justice of peace, after which they retcrned to Hammond. Mrs. A. F. W. Fedder was hostess to

the members of the Ladies' Aid so

ciety of St. Paul's Lutheran church

yesterday afternoon at her home in

State street. The meeting was very

well attended, and the ladles all report

a very pleasant afternoon. The usual

program was enjoyed, after which the hostess served refreshments. Another meeting of the society will take place

in two weeks.

A PLEASANT MEETING. A very pleasant meeting of the la-

dies of the Knights of Columbus took place yesterday afternoon In the K. of

C. hall. It was the regular meeting of the society, and many members were In attendance from Hammond and East Chicago. The afternoon was passed in a very pleasant way with cards, the

honors being awarded to Mrs. F. J.

O'Rourke and Mrs. O'Callahan of East Chicago. Following the card games the members enjoyed a very pleasant social

hour, when dainty refreshments were served. The next meeting will occur

in two weeks. LEAVES ON VISIT.

The regular meeting of the Ladies'

Aid Society of the First Presbyterian

church was held yesterday afternoon

in the social room of the church. It was the regular meeting of the society and the usual business was disposed of. The ladies spent the business hour

with arrangements for the banquet which they will serve at the Men's

club meeting next Tuesday evening,

May 4th in the Masonic Temple. At

the close of the meeting a pleasant so

cial hour was enjoyed when the guests met informally and were served with refreshments. Mrs. H. F. Meikle and Mrs. F. C. Deming were hostesses at

the meeting. Another meeting will be held next Wednesday afternoon and a full attendance of members is desired.

letic association have issued between 700 and 800 invitations for the dance to be given next Thursday evening. May 6th, in their club rooms in Bellview place. Manv guests are expected

to come from Chicago Heights, Chicago, Indiana Harbor, East Chirago, Whiting and Crown Point to attend. Arrangements have been made for a carry-all to drive the guests from the Hotel Majestic to the club house. The

dance will be one of the leading social events of the year and It is anticipated with great pleasure among the young people.

ing Workers' society met at the home of Mrs. G. Green In Plummer avenue last evening for a pleasant meeting. A very short business session was held in the early evening, after which an

The Mothers' club of the Lincoln

school will meet Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the school hall. It will be

the last meeting of the year, so that a

large attendance is desired. The com

mittee has arranged an enjoyable program for the day of recitations and

songs by the pupils of the various grades. Professor W. A. Hill will make

the address.

close of the regular Wednesday night prayer service. Business was disposed of which was of much Interest to the members, after which a very delightful social hour was held. The Rev. W. F. Swltzer entertained the board, which is composed of the teachers and officers in the Sunday school. An hour was passed in an enjoyable social way after which dainty refreshments were served. There were about thirty present.
