Street theater, Boston, in "Cyrano de Bergerac." Maat B- Photographed. Every girl engaged for the chorus in the Charles Dillingham attractions now has to have her photograph taken as soon as she accepts her contract for a chorus position, and these photographs are made up In thumb-nail

eize. There is nothing unusual about! being photographed, because that is one of the first things a real "chorus: lady" does after she decides to go on j the stage, but the purpose for which ' the Dillingham beauty's likeness is ' taken is a bit out of the ordinary. It f is a means of identifying the young! woman as one passed upon by the per- j son whose business it is to select ; eligible girls from the number who apply and is intended to prevent any "ringer3" from foistering themselves j

upon the management. This was made necessary by one young woman who found a remunerative business in transferring the contracts which she obtained, to other girls leFS favored by nature, for a consideration. The chorus girls in "The Red Mill" company have

appeared before the camera for "thumb- i

Tin; famous young stars, "The layman Twin Brothers'' who have jumped with wonderful strides to the front rank as comedians, and who we have tin1 pleasure or seeing here soon in their latest musical hit, "The Yankee Drummers,'' which is said to be one of the finest and most complete musical comedy productions of the day, are comedians in a class by themselves, and entertainers who deal out comedy

lines and situations in a way seldom seen. "The Yankee Drummers" is the most elaborate production in which they have yet appeared. Carrying a large company, a dainty chorus of pretty girls, a host of funny comedians, singers and dancers, together with a beautiful array of scenic and electrical effects complete. The flirtation song, the poppy girls, e.ihI the country maidens are novelties which are original and seen only with this attraction. At the Towle opera house Sunday, April 25th.

A Wilmington woman recently readied the conclusion tiiat the attachment of a certain policeman for her cook must be investigated, let it prove disastrous to domestic discipline. "Do you think he means business, Mary?" she asked. "I think so, mum," said Mary. "lie's begun to complain about my eookin,' mum." Harper's Weekly.

In commenting upon the situation the latest London referee says: "Our dramatists, our actors, our theaters, are all under the star spangled banner. Washington, April 23. William L. Penfield, former solicitor for the state department and at one time prominent in Indiana politics, was thought to be in a dying condition Wednesday night. He ha. been unconscious for fortyeight hours and is kept alive by powerful stimulants. Three physicians have exhausted their resources in an effort to save his life, and pronounce his cease hopeless. Stuart MrSamara, special counsel in the government libel cases, expects to go to Chicago soon and from there to Indianapolis. He declines to discuss his movements. In keeping with the new policy of secrecy inaugurated at the department of justice the government's moves in the libel cases are not to be spoken of in advance of any of the attaches of the department. There is an extremely interesting show going on these days at the Colonial theater, and no one should miss seeing the great western and Indian war shows, booked by Manager Herron. The Indians on exhibition are not painted negroes, but are the genuine savage article. Chief Little Hear is a graduate of Leland Stanford university, in California, however, and speaks English and the Sioux languages fluently. Manager Herron in speaking of the snow, says:
