Tolleston, Ind., Feb. 18. "The South
Bend line Isn't doing the city any harm." This Is the way President W. S. Gallagher of the town board or Tol
leston characterizes the service rendered on the Tolleston spur, which was put In operation about a month
ago.
The citizens of Tolleston recently
sent forth an urgent appeal to the
town board and the officials of the
South Bend line to Improve the service at once. They said that the patrons
of - the line were compelled often to
wait as long as an hour for a car
without any shelter from the wind. At
Tolleston Junction, It Is said, that the patrons of the line are unable to make
proper connections. Into Gary, and are often compelled to wait at that place
In the cold.
A meeting between the trustees of
the town and the attorney for the road, J. F. Lewis Meyer, of South Bend, was
present. Instead of securing better service, however, an ordinance was passed by Trustees Behnke and Borman, Gallagher dissenting, to allow the company to run on a forty-minute schedule In place of thirty minutes, as they are now required in the franchise. A number of persons protested but to no advantage. Cables Are Too Lovr. Mr. Gallagher also stated that the cables, which have been strung by the company, are only sixteen feet from the ground when they are compelled by law to be twenty-two feet. This he said would result In the certain death of any man who happened to be riding on a load of hay and came In contact with the wires. There are 6,600 yolts used to operate the cars. Mr. Meyer admitted this fact when he was in Tolleston a few days be-

It Is also persistently rumored about the city that the Chicago Telephone

damages. Wire Chief Thompson of the I

Gary Police Fear That Mi
chael Cigaritz May Go Insane. The Gary police are afraid that Michael Cigaritz, who shot Joe Cigaritz, his brother, and Dan Voconovich, will
go insane as a result of brooding over the shooting affair.
For a day Cigaritz has not taken
any food or drink. He has refused to
talk, even when his wife was brought into the jail in an effort to take his
mind off his crime.
He spurned her, however, and shoved he rout of the way. He seemed ,to think that It was she who had betrayed him to the police and he abused her for so doing. It' has become known that Michael Cigaritz did not intend to shoot the mel he did and the fact that he hit the men he did was due to his poor marksmanship. He is being detained in the jail at Gary In order that the condition of . the men he shot may be determined. If
