EEAED BY EUBE.

The local police have not had such a busy night since the "stirring days of 1906". as we might Bay. It you don't get a valentine- next Sunday its probably for the reason that your friends have too good sense to send you one. Oh, well, waybe this will kill the fruit crop enough so we won't have to undergo any more like It this season. Far be it, for the weather man to deceive us. The Tolleston town board are now scratching their heads in trying to decide whether they will own their own municipal water and light plant, or whether they will grant the franchise to the Gary'Heat, Light and "Water-company. Another restaurant has opened in Gary, which, will add oneraore to the already large selection. Not only can you get your next.winter"a clothes at a lower price in Gary now.. but they will prove a great boon

to the struiTKlinir moths during the

long1 hard summer. Th "bad negroes" of Gary will prob

ably have to- be taught a lesson before they will cease robbing and committing depredations. The patience f the

people of Gary won't last forever.

Although the negro children In Gary are to be segregated from the whites.

they will not be discriminated against

by the booktrust as "long as they have

the price.

Let s be as cheerful as possible.

Frank V7. Tucker, state food inspector of Peru, Ind., has again begun a series of investigations in Gary and

promises in the near future one of the biggest sensations In that line that the

city has yet seen. It looks, at present

as if the blow would fall upon the drug

gists, of the city, two of whom were found, after an examination, to be vio

lators of the pure food law.

Mr. Tucker refused to divulge .the

names of the druggists against whom he may prefer charges, but he says that

he was surprised at the manner In

which they were found to be operating their stores. The specific charge which

will likely be placed against them Is

that of improper labeling. Certain drugs

were found in their stores which, contained opium, and, there was no -label on the bottles designating the pres

ence of this ingredient.

Patent Medclnea Adulterated. This drug was found mostly In jmtent

medicines. Two of the drug stores of

the city, however, were found to have

complied with every section of the sta

tutes and will be reported as "good,"

while the other two will be reported "bad."

The investigation of the conditions

In this city will not stop with the drug stores, according to Mr. Tucker, but will

be continued in all lines of business. Including stores, markets, hotels and

restaurants. It Is also expected before

the Investigation is ended, charges will be preferred against some of the bakeries which have given Health Officer

T. B. Templln so much trouble and which have not improved materially since the owners were prosecuted.

Original Night Rider. The Omaha Bee says that Paul Revere was the founder of the rough riders. He was also the original night rider, wasn't he?
