'THE WITCHING HOUR." With an uninterrupted series of successes to its credit in other cities, Augustus Thomas' record-breaking play "The Witching Hour" comes to this city next Monday, Jan. 11, at the Towle opera house. In no other play of recent years has so much novelty realism and sustained interest been revealed. From the raise of the curtain In the

first act to the final climax of the fourth act, the mystic, enthralling story is skillfully told in- spirited, subtle, style. It Is a play of startling action, replete with astonishing telephatlc denouncements and marvelous hypnotic climaxes. Flashing, forceful and impressive feats of mental suggestion are shown with telling effect. But hynotism and telepathy are but a part of the mosiac construction of this great drama of trobbing, vital, human interest. It is a play which ap

peals to all creeds and classes. In the all-round company of excellence engaged in its production are: Howard Gould, Edward See. Robert Barton, Her

man Rirschberg, Alma Chester, Eleanor Barry, Janet Dunbar, Franklin Jones, George Howell, Charles Mailes, Frederick Roberts, W. C. Bristor. S. Kent,

W. p. Jackson and J. L. Wilson.

The sumptuous scenic environment whicllwill be shown with "The Witching Hour" bears credit to the lavish provision made by the Shuberts for all

of their attractions.

The announcement will come as

something: of a surprise to the people

of Gary that Attorney William Duff

Haynie, who has been a prominent

member of the firm of Knapp, Ilaynie & Campbell, United States Steel company attorneys, has severed his con

nection with the steel company and

will become the general counsel of the

Illinois Manufacturer's association; The change took effect Jan. 1. For a number of years Mr. Ifaynie has been the general counsel for the Illinois Steel

company and in his connection with the July ..462

firm of Knapp, Ilaynie & Campbell also , Se,rk'lf9

represented o.it oi me auusiuiary com

panies of the United States Steel corpo- ;

ration in this district. It is presumed that the acceptance of the position of general counsel for the Illinois Manufacturer's association will mean that Mr. Ilaynie will sever his connection with the well-known Chicago firm with which he has been connected. It will probably mean the reorganization of this firm in view of the fact that the death of Attorney Call recently

removed another valuable member from the partnership. Mr. Haynie was Well liked by all of the people in Gary with whom he came

in contact. He is a man of great ability and many of the business men of Gary

and the officials of the Indiana Steel

ana energetic one. The citizens of Gary have arranged to give the members of the legislature a hot time in Gary. They have raised a fund to hire a special train of Pullman sleepers,, on which the makers of laws are to ride- to the north part of the state; they art to be feasted and dined, and if there is a member of either house who takes a drink he can have one on the trip to Gary. And all that Gary wants in return is a law creating a superior court. Hammond and other cities of Lake county are opposing the proposed creation of a court for Gary, but up to date they are good natured about it."
