F.SJETZ BUYS HIS ADDITION
Real Estate Market in Hammond Shows Great Activity; Property Changes Hands Readily P rospects Good. A deal was closed by Gostlin, Meyn & Co. for the sale of the Hlnks addition to- the city of Hammond to F. S. Betz of the F. S. Betz Co. for an unnamed consideration. The Hlnks addition Is one of the oldest sub-divisions in Hammond and was opened shortly after Homewood was laid out. It was recently sold to Oliver I "Watson, 160 Washington street. Chicago, but Mr. Betz bought the property today after considerable negotiation. This is one of the largest deals that has taken place in this city since the recent financial panic. It Is second only in importance to the trade which A. M. Turner made with the Erie Railroad company by which he was enabled to open up his Calumet avenue addition. These two deals and the numerous sales of lots In Hammond and vicinity make it apparent that there is a good market for properly advertised lots in Hammond and that nowhere is the real estate market more active than in Hammond. Since J. S. Blackmun sold out his East Lawn addition, the Hammond Realty company has sold out the majority of the lota in its Riverside addition, the syndicate, which purchased the South Homewood addition, has sold out three-fourths of the lots there without any effort, the Glendale addition has been practically disposed of In the past three years and considerable property has been sold In the Hammond Heights addition, in the Oakland addition and the Joseph O. Morris addition, all of which were laid out as a result of the location of the Standard Steel Car company, Hammond. These deals indicate that there Is and has been a healthy activity In the real setate market In Hammond despite the fact that the growth of Gary, in the eastern part of the county, has attracted the eyes of the world in that direction. Last Saturday Roscoe E. "Woods sold four lots in the Souh Homewood addiipon to Drs. Groman and Salsbury. Other purchases are under consideration in this addition and when the addition finally is sold out the last cheap lots In Homewood will be gone.
A busy and Important session of the legislature is promised In South Dakota this winter. After electing Governor Crawford to the United States senate, the legislators will proceed to deal with bills proposing a two cent railroad fare, a county option bill and amendments to the new. primary law. The establishment of a state Immigration bureau is another matter that will receive attention.
