DISCUSSES RAGE PROBLEM
Says Original Plan Will Be Carried
Out on Theory of Making Negro Independent.
touperintendent W. A. . Wirt of the
Gary public schools will leave Monday
for the state teachers'" association
meeting at Indianapolis. It is not foe
lieved that any other Gary teacher will accompany him, as most of them reside
out of town and will spend the holidays at their homes. In regard to the segregation of the
colored and white children of Gary, Mr. Wirt said yesterday that the plant would be carried out in detail. The
school board Is unanimous in its be
lief that It would be for the best In-
tertsts of everybody concerned to have the colored children taught separately fro m the whites and by a colored instructor.
The reason advanced by Mr. Wirt la.
that the negroes should learn to bo in
dependent and help each other. In
other wards, he would seek to pro
mote clannlshness among them, which
ae believes Is right and proper, in the same manner that the Servians, Poles and Italians band together in this country for the purpose of helping each
other.
In time, when the negroes graduate
from the schools, they in turn will be
led to teach schools of thei rown color. This, they feel, will act as a stepping stone to a higher profession, such as law and medicine, which he hones thev
will practice among their own people so that they can build themselves up instead of being constantly dependent upon the white people of this country.
ine above is but a brief reason ad
vanced by the board and is but one of
the many which has caused them to de
cide in the manner in which they have.

HOW TO REDUCE FAT '
PROPORTIONATELY
Proportion i? the thing. A fat woman
years tQ reduce for abdomen, but sh
doesn't want to produce a scrawny neck. This fact condemns the dieting
method of reducing. You can't strave
the fat off one place and not off an
other. Blmply Impossible. But why try dieting, er even exercising, when there is a better way of reducing fat than either.
Try the following: Qne-half
Marmola. ounce Fluid Extract Cas-
cara Aromatic, 3 ounces Peppermint Water. Any drugsist will nil th kn
hesply. Take a teaspoonful after
meals and at bedtime apd see (f in a few weeks you are. not losing about a
pound of fat a day not from places where you are normally plump, but from those that are overly fat. The receipt works like a charm. I am told.
ano tnougn it produces delightfully ap
parent results, yet it is perfectly harm-
ess. Doesn't even cause wrinkles, thev
say who have used it, nor interfere with one's diet, which are two other eir
elusive and important differences It
possesses over all other fat reducers ever heard of. Instead of being harm
