ViE MUST EAT SLOWLY
Says This Is the Best Eule to Follow to Avoid Dyspepsia. "There are two good- reasons why
rapid eating causes more dyspepsia
than anything el," said a noted authority. "In the first place, rapidly
swallowed food is not thoroughly chewed. It goes into the stomach be
fore it has been broken up and per
meated by the saliva of the mouth;
too often It is washed down with Ice
water. The other reason is that a man who eats in a hurry usually rushes bak to work. He puts his energy into his work, and draws his blood to his muscles or his brain, at a
time when it is needed in his stomach.'
The best rule to follow is to "eat
and rest for a while after your meal.'
Dyspepsia is easily avoided but diffl
Ult to cure. Instead of dosing with
pepsin, in an ineffectual attempt to lock the stable after the horse ! stol
en, the best practitioners nowadays prefer to administer some good alkaline elixir or neutraliiing cordial to
stimulate the gastric Juices and put
an lmmeaiaie cnecic on icnneniauun. The following formula has been sug
gested as making an effective antacid
and neutralizing corrective: Half
ounce sodium phosphate, 1 ounce es
sence of sealmint, half easpoonful
eood baking soda, enough water to
make 8 ounces. Dose; Two teaspoons-
ful before each meal.
The sodium phosphate especially
has a distinct value in eliminating
wastes before each meal.
It is said that this simple mixture
It can be mixed at home or obtained
from any druggist will relieve gas
immediately, and that it will perma
nently cars long standing cases of in
digestion within two or three weeks,
