(Special to Thb Times.) East Chicago, Ind., Dec. 12. At no
stage in last night s games of the lo
cal high school teams with the Gary
basket-ball players, were the local students outclassed. The boys team suc
ceeded in rolling up a score of ; 43 to 18 against their Gary opponents, while the girls did splendidly in the short hall, handing the juicy citrus to the
extent of an 18 to 9 score.
The boys' game was particularly ex
citing, due to the presence, for his first game, of Macintosh, Coach Clark's new find. "Mac" played an excellent game,
and was assisted greatly by the splen
did team work of the entire East Chi
cago aggregation. The girls' game was one of constant rule-breaking, most of
the goals being made by Mabel Palmer
on iree tnrows. juiman Williams did splendid basket-throwing from for
ward, while Edna Olds made herself known in every moment of the struggle. The Gary quadrangle proved a source of endless annoyance to the local players. About half the regulation length, a person throwing "fre goals" was compelled to stand in the center of the hall. The baskets were "dead" and the hall generally one of the worst. in which the local aggregation has ever had to work. An attempt will be made to bring the Gary teams to East Chicago in the near future, when the E. C. H. S. boys and girls promise to show the visitors some real basket-ball work. About fifty spectators accompanied the teams from East Chicago, making the trip to the Magic City over the new South Shore line. Following is the line-up of the two games: BOYS' GAME. The last of the series to decide the championship of the school was played last night at Hammond. The teams fighting for the title were the seniors and a picked team from the other classes. The seniors came out victorious by a score of 69 to 20. As a curtain-raiser for the big game the freshmen and eighth grade clashed. The contest was a lively one from start to finish as the two teams were evenly matched. The first half ended with the score in favor of the first year boys. In the second half, however, the
eighth graders made a basket and
brought the score 6 ' to .7, ,and it remained this way throughout the game.
The second game was a hard fought
contest, but in the end the seniors
proved their superiority. r
The senior team will likely be the
regular varsity team and further, they have several of the old veterans. The
seniors were given "a good run" any
way, about the hardest they have had this season, and wltlT Ebert playing
center accounts largely for their score.
This settles the inter-class series and
the standing as as follows.
Champions Seniors. Second Place Sophomores. Third Place Juniors. Fourth Place Freshmen.
The lineups for the different teams
was as follows:

Hammond fight fans are disgusted
with the bungling of the GoodmanWhite contest in West Hammond the other evening. They say that the public should have been the first consideration and any difficulties between the owners of halls should have been adjusted without question before the fight. It now appears that one of the owners of West Hammond halls thought that his rival was getting the bulk of the business and so, instead of trying to reach a peaceful adjustment of the
difficulty, he determined to put a stop to the fighting game.
It was a case of, "If you don't play
n my ward, you can't play at all."
Everybody was disgusted to think that a crowd of 300 sports should come all
the way from Chicago to see the "go" and then had to be told that owing to a petty quarrel between the owners of the various West Hammond halls, there would be nothing doing.
It is the consensus of opinion that
the fights in West Hammond will not be very well patronized until the people over there get together and make good whe nthey advertise a fight.

In fact, the ruling powers have laid

At present he can be regarded as the

Baird's father died some time ago and left a fortune well over the $1,000,000 mark. Consequently, Bair himself is
anxious to make his home in Kansas City, provided he does not move to
Chicago, which is his own home. He will, however, be compelled to visit
the former home of his wife quite often, and it is the desire of both to move from here despite a wide circle of friends.
