EAST CHICAGO. The Embroidery Circle was delightfully entertained at the home of Miss Laura Weydert on One Hundred and Forty-fourth street last evening. The Choral society of the Congregational church held their regular weekly rehearsal in the church parlors last evening, Miss Stone directing. They will give their cantata, "The Coming of the King," about Dec. 16th. Dr. G. F. Bicknell of the postoffice building transacted business in Hammond yesterday. The East Chicago Elks held an informal dinner in the Harbor hotel last evening, about forty of the members attending from East Chicago. O'Connell of Forsyth avenue was a Chicago visitor yesterday afternoon. The Marquette Social club of St. Mary's parish last evening held the second of their series of dancing parties. The affair, which was featured as a farmer's dance, was held in Weiland's, hall, and was a brilliant success, due to the energies of the members and of their superintendent, Rev. Father Lauer. Frank Steiglltz of Emlyn place is contemplating the erection of a large store and office building at One Hundred, and Forty-third and Forsyth avenues. Blackman of the Hammond Boiler works was a local visitor last evening, accompanying Attorney J. D. Kennedy to the Eagles' meeting in the Harbor hotel. There will be a business and social meeting of the Christian Endeavor so ciety tomorrow evening for the purpose of considering the purchase of a piano. The Postmaster Entertains. A. G. Lundquist entertained a number of friends at supper last Tuesdayevening, among the guests being Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stafford, Messrs. Crawford Murton, Fred McKnight and D. Clinton Garber and Misses Mary Maher and Helen Galvin. Music was the feature of the evening, while several guessing contests assisted in the entertainment offered by Mrs. Lundquist, who proved herself one of the Harbor's most charming hostesses. Harbor Wins Again. The local polo aggregation defeated the Luna Park team last evening by a score of 6 to 1. The Harbor goals were made by Captain Gibson, assisted by all the players on his team. The game was witnessed by about 300 spectators. L. W. Sarc of Michigan avenue transacted business in Hammond yesterday. Joseph Harris, superintendent of the Brownell Improvement company, yesterday brought fifty laborers to the Harbor to work on the new bascule bridges of the Lake Shore railroad immediately west of the Harbor and crossing the proposed canal. Mr, and Mrs. Barlow Dickey of Englewood, Ill., are spending a few days in the Harbor, as the guests of the Galvin family. D. J. Fitzpatrick of Hammond was a local visitor yesterday, securing the contract for considerable grading to be done near East Chicago by the Fortune Bros.' Brewing company. Silas McCullough of Commonwealth avenue is on the sick list, suffering with an attack of the grippe. The Knights of Pythias nominated their officers for the annual election last Tuesday evening, and report a very enjoyable session. Charles E. Fowler of Michigan avenue attended the session of the supreme council. Royal League, in Chicago, last evening. Architect Norlin yesterday staked out the lots for the new Commercial Club building to be erected on Guthrie Street, near Michigan avenue. E. H. Guyer and wife of Hobart were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. .J. A. Patterson of Grapevine street yesterday afternoon. O. B. Lloyd of Grapevine street is suffering with a severe attack of the grippe. Attorney W. B. Van Home and family of Fir street were Chicago business visitors yesterday afternoon. Dr. J. A. Teegarden of Michigan avenue transacted business in Chicago courts yesterday morning. Mrs. Harriet Winslow of Fir street spent yesterday Whiting as the guest of her son, George W. Winslow, and wife.. Judge W. A. Reiland of East Chicago yesterday occupied the bench in G. E. Reiland's court, during the absence of the latter, due to a minor illness. Mrs. David Hancock and Mrs. C. C. Robinson of Michigan avenue were Chicago visitors yesterday; witnessing the matinee performance of "A Stubborn Cinderella" at the Princess theater. Mrs. C. C. Robinson and Mrs. David Hancock of the South Bay hotel entertained friends from Birmingham, Ala., Tuesday afternoon. L. S. Van Heldt of Decato, O., will spend Sunday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Alfred Jensen, of Deodar street. Miss Unice Saager has resigned her position in the Ketslck theater, and will hereafter play in an East Chicago amusement house. Judge G. E. Reiland is rejoicing over the return of his bulldog, which was found by John Edwards of 75 Sibley street, Hammond. BABY SHARP DEAD. (Special to THE TIMES.) Whiting. Ind., Dec. 10. The 3-year-old old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Sharp died at their home in One Hundred and Nineteenth street yesterday afternoon. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

The fifth and deciding game of the match billiard contest between Fales and Atkins of Gary, for the purse of $25, was won by Fales. The score was 100 to 80. The games throughout the contest have been close and exciting, but the one played last night was the best that has been seen yet in the Club cigar store. A large crowd of enthusiastic fans gathered around the players when time

Memphis, Dec. 10.-Plans have been made to reinstate Otis Stockdale, the veteran pitcher, formerly with Washand Baltimore, and blacklisted by the Southern league last summer for failing to prove alleged charges of thrown games. Petitions signed by 1,fans in each Southern league city having been forwarded. LEWIS TO OPEN AT MUSCATINE. Muscatine, Ia., Dec. 10.-Tonight Company C, for several years Iowa basket-ball champions, will open its season. The Lewis Institute team of Chicago will offer the opposition to the soldiers in the opening engagement, and will also play on Friday. Manager Ruschdeschel will bring the strongest teams in the west here during the winter, including Central Y. M. C. A. team of Chicago Dec. 18 and 19 and Hull House Jan. 28 and 29. West Side Y. of Chicago and Naperville will visit here early in the season. DES MOINES TO START SEASON. Des Moines, Dec. 10.-The Y. M. C. A. basket-ball team will play its first game of the season Friday night with the Fort Dodge team at Fort Dodge.
