OFFER FOR ALL-CHICAGO TEAM.

Cochema "Wants Local Stars to Play at

St. Louis Christmas Day.

A post-season football game between

an all-Chicago eleven and St. Louis University of St. Louis is the latest

gridiron possibility. Captain Walter

Steffen of the 1908 Maroons yesterday

received a letter from Coach "Eddie"

Cochems of St. Louis asking him to ar

range for such a contest, and the Mid

way star may decide to take up the

proposition.

According to Cochems' suggestion, the

game would be played on Christmas

day and the proceeds would be devoted

to charity. Steffen has not decided

whether or not he will try to get a

team together for the game.

"Cochems wishes to play the game

on a strictly amateur basis," said Stef

fen last night. "He writes that most

of his regulars are willing to take part

in the game, and says he is anxious to play a team of Chicago players and ex-players. I don't know what will be done about it as yet." -

captain will be elected by the "W" men

early ln the winter term. To secure a track and field team "W the man must win a first In a dual meet or a first or second in a state or triangular meet.

REDS FALL ONCE MORE. Havana, Dec. 5. The Almendares

captured the fifth game of the series, shutting out for the second time the

visitors through superb fielding and pitching. The Reds were weakened greatly by the absence of Johnny Kane, who went home on account of his wife's

sickness, and Lobert, who was unable

to play on account of a slight indispo

sition. Mitchell played third and in the outfield. Two pitchers and a catcher were in the outfield for the Reds. Chicago's colony of baseball moguls will leave tomorrow for New Tork to attend the annual league meetings. There is a possibility that President Murphy of the Cubs will not be able to leave on account of sickness in his

family. It would be an unusual National league gathering if the owner of the pennant-winning team were ab

sent, but that condition is quite likely. Secretary Thomas of the Cubs will go to offer his defense before the national commission in the ticket scalping case, and unless Murphy is able to leave Thomas will represent the Chicago club in the league meeting. Comiskey and Johnson, Secretary McRoy of the American league and Charles Fredericks, the business manager of the White Sox, have booked reservations on the Twentieth Century for tomorrow and will hit New Tork in a well-defined body early Monday morning.

New Tork, Dec. 5. The week which New Tork annually gives to bicycle racing begins tonight in Madison

While cycling as a sport has steadily

declined in public favor for a decade

and more, this six-day survival of the good old times seems to have lost none yt its popularity. Thousands turn out

each year to witness the event and some of the devotees have been known

to remain in the garden for two and

three days at a time.

The list of entries this year is calculated to furnish some good sport. As has usually been the case ln late years

the foreign riders are to predominate Walter Rutt and John Stol, who com

head the list of foreign teams. Other European entries noted for their speed

and endurance includes Francois Faber, Hongri Lafourcade, Victor Dupre, Leon Georget, Roger Barbrousse, Maurice Brocco, and Albert Edward Wills, the diminutive English pace follower, who recently established . the world's record by riding 71 milee and 905 ytj.rds in an hour.
