RETURNS HOME. Mrs. Leland has returned to her home In Minneapolis after a pleasant visit of a few weeks with her sister, Mrs. John W. Dyer of Indiana avenue. MISSIONARY MEETING. The Woman's Missionary Society of the First Methodist Episcopal church is meeting this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Winckley in South Hohman 'street. A very Interesting program had been arranged for the afternoon's study and It was expected that there would be a good attendance of members. TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. Little Willard Vaughn Falconburg, was taken III last Tuesday atternoon and the doctors in attendance decided that an operation was necessary im-! mediately. The child was removed to the Presbyterian hospital in Chicago early Wednesday morning and Dr. J. Webster performed the operation at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Drs. Vaughn and Campbell were present at the operation. The last report from Chicago was that the child was getting along nicely although he was not out of danger. VISITING HERE. Misses Julia and Hulda Janssen are Miss Maud Pannenborg at their home Miss Maud Pannenborg at tehlr home in Webb street. The young ladies are spending their vacation here, Miss Julia being a student at the Wisconsin university and Miss Hulda at the Chicago hospital. RETURNS HOME. Mr. and Mrs. George Pearson have returned home from a visit with relatives and friends in Kingman, Ind. Mrs. Pearson has been gone from Hammond for several weeks having fallen and sprained her ankle while in Kingman PROGRAM ARRANGED. The domestic science committee of the Hammond Woman's club will have charge of the program for the next public meeting, Saturday afternoon Nov. 28th. The program promises to be very entertaining arid it is expected that there will be a large attendance of members and friends. An admission of 25 cents will be charged all persons not members of the club. The afternoon was spent in playing games and music after which light refreshments were served. THE LAMB AND BRUTE TONIGHT, Tonight the Imperial Stock company will be seenln the feature bill of the engagement, and in spite of the warnings extended by the management to all nervous or easily frightened persoons, the play, "The Lamb and the Brute, promises to attract a full house. It is said to be sensational to a degree, depending entirely upon its morbid and gruesome features for success, and It is freely acknowledged to be much worse in this respect than Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. An actual hanging scene Is introduced m one of the acts, a regulation scaffold being carried especially for the play. The matinee tomorrow will be the pretty four-act production, "A Daughter of the People" and tomorrow night the company will be seen in "Dealers In White Women." The Ladies' Guild of St. Paul's Episcopal church held the regular meeting Wednesday afternoon in the guild room of the church. There was the usual attendance of members and business of importance was discussed. HAVE PLEASANT PARTY. The kindergartens of the various schools had pleasant parties Wednesday as an appropriate close for the shore Thanksgiving vacation. The time was spent pleasantly with kindergarten games and at the close a delicious luncheon was served. The mothers of many of the children attended. HOLD INFORMAL PARTY. The girls of the eighth grade of the Central school gave a party in honor of the boys of the grade Wednesday afternoon in the kindergarten room. The baby was born last Wednesday afternoon and the mother Is said to be doing very well. Mr. Edward Ames is well-known in this city, where he lived until he took up the management of a wire-bound box company at Crawfordsville. This is the second time Mr. Ames Sr. has been grandfather.
