GARY

111 THE SUPERIOR COURT This is Gary day in the Lake superior court. Chief of Police Martin and Sergeant Catey were over to prosecute three cases which were to come

up. The case of the state vs. Will Hart, a negro, who la charged with highway robbery. The negro is accused of picking the pockets of John Krutzkowski of Gary. Krutakowski is an oil man and it is presumed that Hart thought he had some of John D.'s money about his person. - The case, was continued until tomorrow morning. Another case In which Chief Martin apears as the prosecuting witness, is that of the state vs. Lawrence Ryan. Ryan is charged with stealing a , pair of rubber boots from the Otis Engine company. He was arrested by. the Gary police, and his case will be tried before Judge Virgil S. Reiter this aft

ernoon if the bailiff succeeds In getting

a Jury.

The third case in which the Gary chief is interested , is that of Antone

Lipke, who is charged with stealing some meat from a Gary market. The

case is one of . petit larceny and Ser

geant Catey is one of the prosecuting

witnesses.

These cases will. probably take up all of tb afternoon, and the court will continue the work of cleaning up the criminal docket for the rest of the

week.

FINDS CONDITIONS IN OHIO MUCH IMPROVED.

Business. Louis Meketinski, of the real es

ta.te firm of the Mack company, has just returned from the east where he has

been for the past few days . disposing of real estate. Mr. Meketinski has b'ien disposing of property in Ohio, where he finds that conditions are very much improved. Mr. Meltiers partner, who has been in the east for the past month, will return to Gary within a few days. He has been fortunate in the sale of property in the east, and may return this year.

There are a number of Gary men who indulge in self praise whenever they perform some little act of note. Look out for all forms of bogus prosperity in Gary. There seems to be a great difference of opinion among those who don't know as to when the Gary steel mills are to commence operations.

"What has become of the usual au- ! tumn carnival of crime in Gary. I Considering that this la Gary's second year in football they are making a very creditable showing In the wrong way. Just think how nice it will be to hold ekating parties on the Burns ditch in years to come. The person who stole the gallon jug of chemicals from the police station on Sunday thinking it was liquor evidently knows by this time that he got a wrong brand. It is up. to. the foreigners in Gary as well as the ladles to learn how to alight from a street car. It has been said that the Gary and Interurban will have its right-of-way paved before Dec. 1. Think they will? Let Gary"s nimrods be careful when they are out rabbit hunting. It was only last week down in southern Indiana that a duck hunter was mistaken cotten laid and as a result is now nibbling green buds in bunny land. There are a lot of women .in Gary who will find it awfully dull in heaven if they have to wear the same style

robe all the time. ' - There is one way that Gary merchants can increase their business and that is to enter into the spirit of advertising. If it pays one merchant in a city to advertise it will give all others the same results. Gary real estate dealers are casting envious eyes on those of the same profession in Toleston. Some of the prospective candidates for the city offices are already planning an extensive campaign and have even gone so far as to try several brands of cigars. You can begin too

early, but let us have a safe and sane

campaign cigar from now on.

The fact that a United States senator

is to be chosen at the next session of the legislature will lead to a number of

conests for election in both houses, it

believed. Already several contests

for election have been filed in different

parts of the state by defeated demo

cratic candidates for the house, and at

least some of these have been filed

nder the direction of the democratic

state organization, which, it is said, wishes to protect itself from any political schemes in the senate. '

In the senate the republicans will

have the majority, and therefore will have the advantage in seating members of that body. One of the possibilities that has been considered by the democrats is that the republicans, taking ad-

antage of their majority, will tempor

arily seat enough republican members

the senate to cut a big figure in

electing a United States senate possibly enough to throw the United States senatorshlp to the republicans. Color is given to this theory by the fact that

the election of the three democratic

candidates for state senator in Marion county has been contested.

To Offset Senate Gains. To meet any such emergency as the

wholesale unseating of democrats in the senate, the democratic state organization, it is understood, is getting

ready to look after its interests in the

house. In the house the democrats are

the majority, and, of course, the ad-

antage the democrats would have in

seating their members in that branch would equal those of the republicans in the upper branch. If then, the republicans should attempt to seat

their members to affect "the senatorship election, the democrats would at

tempt to seat temporarily enough of their members In the house to offset

the action of the republican senate,

Dr. Pierce believes that our American forests abound in most valuable medicinal roots for the cure of most obstinate and fatal diseases, if we would properly investigate themj and, in confirmation of this conviction, he points with pride to the almost marvelous cures effected by his "Golden Medical Biscovery" which has proven itself to be the most efficient stomach tonic, liver invigorator and blood cleanser known to medical science. Dyspepsia, or indigestion and torpid liver yield to its curative action. The reason why it cures these and many other affections, is clearlv shown in a little book of

extracts from the standard medical works which is mailed free to any address by Dr. R. V. Pierce, of Buffalo, N. Y., to all sending request for the same. Not less marvelous, in the unparalleled cures it is constantly making of woman's many peculiar affections, weaknesses and distressing derangements is Br. Pierce's Favorite Prescription, as is amply attested by thousands of unsolicited testimonials contributed by grate ful patients who have been cured by it, often after many other advertised medi cines, and physicians had failed. . Both the above mentioned medicines are wholly made up from the glyceric extracts of native, medicinal roots. The processes employed in their manufacture were original with Dr. Pierce, and they are carried on by skilled chemists and pharmacists with the aid of apparatus and appliances specially designed and built for this purpose. Both medicines are entirely free from alcohol and all other harmful, habit-forming drugs. A full list of their ingredients is printed on each bottle-wrapper. Don't accept secret nostrums as substitutes for these medicines OF KNOWN COMPOSITION. -

Inner Circles Confident. Unquestionably the inner circles were confident of the result of the negotiations just completed, else there had been an outpour of steel securities from that quarter on the current advance. This, together with the enormous outside buying explains why steel common instead of slumping has actually advanced in the teeth of expert selling.
