FROM NEIGHBORING TOWN. AND CITY ,

NEWS OF THE COUNTY SEAT

CEOWN POINT SNOWS HEBRON UNDER SATURDAY.

County Seat I.ads Do Terrible Thing to Portt-r County Boys After the smoke of the battle had cleared away from the old fair grounds football field on Saturday afternoon the score showed that Crown Point high school had won the most decisive victory of their career by the score of 109 to 6, piled up against the Hebron high school eleven, being sufficient to win a season"s games. From all reports there was "nothing to it" for the Crown Point team, they being able to pile up a score whenever they willed and it was only a question of how fast tney could run. Hebron was simply outclassed by the local players, and two of the Crown Point team had to play on their eleven to make any showing at all. The only score made by the visitors was made by the Crown Pointer, who played with them.

Crown Point will tackle a harder proposition when they meet Hammond next Saturday, but from the showing

they made against Hammond recently

they are pretty confident of winning,

ppovtding nothing happens to any of

the players before that day. A good

crowd of rooters from here will ac

company the team.

Nearly all the old-time stars of Crown

Point will play, and they promise to make things warm for the Lowell team.

The Q. A. M. club will meet at the

home of Mrs. Frank Daily on East street tomorrow night.

Politics have quieted somewhat in

Crown Point, but there are still quite

a good many that congregate in places

to figure out how it happened. Also

the dope for the next election two

years from now is being discussed, and

many are figuring on the chances of

their favorites.

The teachers of West Creek, St. Johns,

Ross and Center township met at the North Ward school house on Saturday

for their regular institute. A good

attendance and an interesting meeting

is reported.

Yesterday's pleasant weather brought

many automobile parties and pleasureseekers to town, and Crown Point's streets were well populated with the

machines of strangers. Most of the local enthusiasts went on pleasure excursions to the different towns and

everyone seemed to take advantage of

the beautiful weather.

Mr. "W. B. Flenstermaker, of 125 Condlt 1

street, Hammond. Mrs. B. Burge accompanied her sis

ter to her home In Kalamazoo, Mich. Mrs. Burge visited a few days before returning.

Merrillville had the usual wheelbarrow parade, as the result of an elec

tion bet. Small boys were in attendance.

A (traveling salesman who visited

CroWn Point Saturday tells a good

story of an old moss-back democrat

he chanced to meet in southern Indiana,

which goes to show how inconsistent partisan feeling will make a man, and to what length he will go to carry his

point. The salesman says that while maklDg his rounds he stepped into a store on one of the south state small

towns and chanced to get into a po

litical argument, although he tried all

manner of ways to side step the discussion. Finally after things had warmed up considerably, one of the old moss-backs jumped up and pulled a wad of bills out of his pocket that would choke an ox and yelled at the top of his voice: "Heh, you, see them 'er Mils, begosh, sir, not a taking any chances on Taft's 'lection, no, siree. Thought mebbe the son of a gun might win so's' I jest went to the bank and drew out ney money. Reckon as how I'm not going to lose all I've got. for didn't Bryan tell us as how the banks would go to smash if Taft got in. And he's jest liable to, too. The traveling

man stood the talk as long as he could

and just for a joke offered to bet $50

that Taft would be elected. The old

moss-back nearly fell over a sugar

barrel in his efforts to cover the trav

ellng man's' money, when the hangerson saw the point the traveling man was

trying to make, and they gave the old

democrat the laugh.

He bad drawn most of his money out

of the bank for fear Taft would be

elected, and then ' turned around and

bet that Taft would not win.

A picked team of football players

from Crown Point .will play the Lowell

team at Oakland park next Sunday it- 1 '.
