And Just think it was only a week ago today that William Jennings prophesied that he would be the next president of the UnitedStates. And now the race for the election to the city offices has begun. Let us hope that it will be safe and sane. There are many men In Gary who think they are saints Just because they have dreams of heaven every Sunday. Even if turkeys are to be so terribly high for Thanksgiving there are good people in Gary who will eat veal instead, and nobody will know the differ ence. A Chicago man even came as far as Gary to get his wife who ran away and left him a month ago. Every cow in Lake county is to be examined by the state officials for tuberculosis. It Is needless to say that many will be put on the unfair list. Prosperity has even gone so far in Gary as to make some people think of buying Christmas presents already. The time has arrived when mother's old family cough syrup is brought into general use. Weanwhile the dealers in fall goods in Gary are anxiously awaiting the departure of the Indian summer. The death of the laborer on the Chicago, Lake Shore & South Bend Interurban railway demands a strict investigation by the coroner. TtGARY TEAMS ARE
DECISIVELY BEATEN Plucky Elevens from Gary High School Swamped on Saturday. REGULARS WIN OUT EASILY "Scrubs" Are Game But They Lose to More Experienced Eleven By Big Score. Owing to the fact that the eleven re presenting the Hammond high school did not have a game scheduled for last Saturday and was desirious of engag ing in a practice game before the cru cial contest with Crown Point next Saturday, a game was scheduled with Gary late Friday night and was played last Saturday at Harrison Park. The Hamond team won by a score of 28 to 0 and later the Hammond scrubs defeated the Gary scrubs by the score of 34 to 0. The game between the regulars was for the purpose of giving both teams practice and the game be tween the reserves was for the purpose of developing new players for both the teams. The Hammond boys were very much pleased to have the Gary boys come over and help them out for the big game next Saturday and as a result of the courtesy there was an entente cor diale created between the athletes of the two cities which promises much for the future. Kbert and Murray Out. Owing to the fact that the Gary team was very much lighter than the Hammond team and that it has had less ex perience its members requested that Ebert and Murry be not allowed to participate. This request was readily granted as these men were very much heavier than the others and would have made the game needlessly rough and the teams very unequal in weight. The game was a fine exposition of the open play. The forward pass was frequently resorted to by both teams and they used it to great advantage. The weather was splendid and although the game was not well advertised there as a good sized crowd in attendance. The Gary boys put up a good game and were complimented for their gentlemanly conduct and their sportsmanship. The Hammond boys believe that Gary was justified in asking that Ebert and Murry be kept out of the game on account of their size and the fact that both of the boys will easily make the all Lake county and all northern Indiana teams. The game itself was an open one from start to finish. On several occasions the visiting team was forced to punt thus giving Summers of the Hammond team a chance to show his ability in golng through broken field. There were many long runs which served to make the game interesting to the spectators and many of the touchdowns of the local teams were made in this manner. Coach, Sargent of Gary said that he was very well pleased with the showing his boys made against the heavier and more experienced Hammond team. He says he expects to profit greatly from the experience he had here. Several times during Saturday's game he noted places here he could make improvements and will profit thereby. Coach Allee, who wears the smile that won't come off, was well pleased with tho game and thinks there will be great , improvement in the team hen it plays Crown Point here next Saturday. He was also able to pick out several weak places in his team and these will be . remedied before the game at the week's end. Hammond's first touch down was made when Graves recovered a fumbled ball and ran down the field for a touch down. From that time on the Hammond goal was never In danger. inninBiiT IjLllf ftCDIDfiUT QflDl! B L MS flUI (ilnil I DUSJlI 1 " minis UUUU UP A. Dearbeyne Wants to Gary's Next City Clerk.
