The members of the Vptodate Whist club spent a very enjoyable afternoon yesterday at the heme of Mrs. F. L. Miller In Clinton street. It was the regular meeting of the club and all the members were present. The after noon was pleasantly spent in playing whist and the prizes were won by Mrs. B. Kenny and Mrs. P. L. The Martha society of the First Chris tian church met yesterday afternoon at the. home of Mrs. Joe Hanes in Tru man avenue. There was a good attendance of members, who spent the afternoon with the arrangements for the New England supper and , bazaar, which they will give Saturday, Nov. IT, beginning at 5 o'clock. The pro ceeds received from the supper will be used for the benefit of the church, so that a large attendance is desired. PLEASAXT AFTERXOOX PARTY. The members of the Marquette club enjoyed a very delightful party yes terday afternoon when Mrs. W. G. Paxton entertained them at her home in Rimbach avenue. Many of the mem bers and the out-of-town members, W. L. Simonton and Mrs. E. R. Disbrow of Chicago were present. The afternoon was spent in playing progressive euchre, and Mrs. Peter Crumpacker and Mrs. T. W. Oberlin won the hon ors for the afternoon. At the close of the games the guests were served with a luncheon in the diningroom. The color scheme here was prettily car ried out In green and white, carnations and ferns being the only table decora tions. ' Mrs. John McDermott will have the ladies as her guests at their next meeting in two weeks at her home S60 Irving Park boulevard, Chicago. RETURNS TO CROWN POIXT. Miss Marie Hansen returned to Crown Point last evening after being ill at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary Hansen in Rimbach avenue the past week. VISITIXU RELATIVES HERE. Mrs. Joseph Tyler and children of Downers Grove, 111., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Hunt at their home. 1033 South Hohman street. RETURN'S HOME. Mrs. L. T. Meyers and children have returned to their home in Doty street after a few weeks' visit with relatives in Detroit, Mich. CALLED AWAY BY DEATH. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Smalley and daughter. Hilbrich entertained the members of Sewing Circle Xo. 2 of St Margaret's hospital very pleasantly yes terday at her home In Sibley street Twenty-one members of the society were present, and all report a most pleasant afternoon with cards. The prizes at pedro were won by Mrs. Geo Eder and Mrs. Rohrmart. Mrs. Joe Em merling was awarded the consolation prize. At the close of the afternoon the hostess served a dainty course luncheon from small tables. The nex meeting will be in two weeks at the home of Mrs. Lavene in Michigan av enue. ENJOYABLE PARTI'. . One of the most enjoyable parties of the fall season was the one a which Mr. and Mrs. William Ieytze entertained a company of young pen pie at their home in Hohman street las evening. The evening was spent very pleasantly with various games and in formal dancing. Miss Margaret Rhin holtz, pianist, and Miss Mae Powers, violinist, rendered a very pretty pro gram of music during the evening and also played for the dancing. At a lat hour the guests were invited Into th diningroom where, they were served with an elegant four-course luncheon Mrs. Leytze was assisted in serving by Mrs. Seestadt and Miss Welters. Th decorations in the diningroom were very beautiful. The color scheme wa carried out in yellow and white, yel low and white chrysanthemus being the flowers used on the table. A beau tiful hanging basket was suspended from the chandelier decorated with the flowers and ferns. The other room had pretty decorations of flowers and ferns. Among those present were Misse Carrie Gruszka. Amelia Young. Id Kodyker, Arlie and Edna Treche, Ella Mae Notify,. The domestic science committee of the Hammond Woman's club met at tile home of Mrs. Marion Hower in Doty street yesterday afternoon. A large number of the members were in attendance and discussed the program for the , public day at the club, Nov. 28. Nothing definite was decided. so another meeting will be called In the near future. COMING WEDDING. Invitations have been issued for the coming wedding of Miss May Fitzgerald and George Chandler to take place in All Saints' Catholic church. Saturday, .Dec. 5. Miss Fitzgerald came to Hammond from Pittsburg two years ago, and during that time has won many friends. Mr. Chandler Is employed by the Simplex Appliance company. The young people will receive the congratulations of many friends on the announcement.

A splendid program of instrumental ana chorus work, recitations and drills to be given by the pupils of the various grades has been prepared as the en tertainment for the guests. A number of members of the Ham inond chapter of Eastern Stars went to East Chicago last evening to be present at a meeting and banquet to be given In honor of the visiting grand matron.
