Hammond Temple Pythian Sisters will hold its regular meeting this evening in the K. of P. hall and all members are urged to attend. Mrs. Jennie Wolf will read a report of the grand temple, at which she was present as a delegate from the Hammond temple. ' LEAVES FOR THE WEST. John Tepperdine of Chicago was in lUmmond for a short visit yesterday before leaving for Denver, Colo., where tn has Jieen transferred. Mr. Pepperdine is connected with the G. H. Hammond company, and has been transferred frpm the. Chicago office to the western branch at a much better position. Mrs. Pepperdine and children will not leave until the middle or last of November. The members of the Young Men"s club and St. Agnes' guild held a joint business meeting last evening in the guild room of St. Paul's Episcopal church and transacted busines of importance in connection with the danc ing party which they will give Friday evening. Mrs. Kralowitz entertained the mem bers of the Fleuridelis club very pleas antly yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Glasgow in Oakley avenue. All the members were present and spent an enjoyable afternoon with cards. Sev eral games of pedro were played and the prizes were awarded Mrs. Charles Luthman, Mrs. Mary Kralowitz and Mrs. Cook. After the games the hostess served her guests with a dainty luncheon. Another club party will be held Thursdav afternoon at the home of Mrs. Wetland in Russell street. CHOIR REHEARSAL. Mrs. Lena Webster entertained the ladies of the G. A. R., General Custer Circle No. 5, at her home on Oakley avenue, in honor of her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Linz, who is a member of the circle. After the meeting an elaborate three-course luncheon was served by the hostess. The tables were beau tifully decorated with ferns and carnations. A delightful afternoon was spent by all those who attended. MRS. BUMP ENTERTAINS. Mrs. E: W. Bump is entertaining the members of the Alpha Phi club this afternoon at her home in South Hohraan street. ' COMMITTEE MEETING. The art committee of the Hammond Woman's club will meet at the home of Mrs. M. Rothschild, 307 Couth Hohman street, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The subject for study will be the Raphael. A good attendance is expected, as this is the first meeting of the year. VISIT IN HAMMOND. Mr. and Mrs. S. Spurr of South Edmeston, N. Y., and Mrs. T. A. Maplestone of Chicago spent a day in the Calumet region and visited Mrs. Mar cus Johnston at her studio, 334 South Hohman street. Mrs. Spurr and Mrs. Maplestone are sisters of Mrs. Johnson's. DEBORAH SOCIETY" MEETS. The Deborah Aid society of the First Christian church met yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. George Wright, 352 Beall avenue. There was a large attendance of members so that business of importance was disposed of. The next meeting of the society will be held at the home o,f Mrs. Parker, 180 Calumet avenue, on Thursday afternoon of next week. A MASQUERADE SOCIAL. . The Deborah Aid society . of the First Christian church will give ' a masquerade social on Hallowe'en at the home of Mrs. C. Richardson, 837 Wilcox street. Great preparations are being made for the affair which promises to be a success-in every respect. One of the features will be the weird witch soene from Macbeth and the rest of the program will be equally as entertainr lng. A fine must be given if guests come unmasqued. SOCIAL A SUCCESS. The Epworth League of . the First Methodist church gave a very enjoy able social last evening in the social room of the church. The young people who attended report it as having been one of the pelasantest affairs given in years. The evening was spent very informally with games and music, aft er which refreshments were served. A neat sum was realized, which will be used for the benefit of the league and church. PRETTY BRIDAL SHOWER. Mrs. Clayton Root gave a luncheon and bride's shower yesterday at her pretty home In Crown Point in honor of Miss Harriet Crumpacker of this city, whose wedding to Clarence A Scott takes place next Wednesday. 'The; luncheon was served at 1:30 o'clock in the dining room, which had been prettily arranged with pink and white decorations. Pink carnations were given as favors at the table. The luncheon was served in five courses and at its close the guests went to the parlors, where the shower was held. Miss Crumpacker received many beautiful gifts from the following guests: Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Eunice Youche, Mrs. John B. Barton, Mrs. Clayton Root, Misses Marguerite Hart, Rae Rockwell and Belle Peterson, all of Crown Point. The Hammond guests were: Mrs. W. Ray Hatch, Mrs. L .L. Bomberger, Mrs Peter Crumpacker, Misses Harriet Crumpacker, Irene Mott, Fannie Ruh stadt and Mae Nelson. MISS STOLLEV ENTERTAINS. Miss Anna Stolley entertained the members of the Young Ladies' Sewing club , v ery pleasantly last evening at her home in Morton court. The members present spent the evening with their embroidery work, after which the hostess served dainty refreshments. The club will meet again next week, although the place of meeting has not been decided; MARTHA SOCIETY MEETS. The Martha society of the First i Christian church met vesterday afteri noon at the home of Mrs. Carnahan 166 Calumet avenue, for the regular weekly meeting. The Sunday school of the First Baptist church gave a reception in the church room last evening for the members of the church, congregation and their friends. The reception was well attended and a delightful social time was spent. A very pleasing pro gram was rendered during the evening. including several selections by the Baptist orchestra, which were much enjoyed. After an informal social hour when the guests met for pleasant conversation the members -of the Young Ladies' class of the Sunday school served a two-course luncheon. SEWING CIRCLE MEETS. Mrs. Curtis entertained the ladles of Sewing Circle No. 2 of St. Margaret's hospital yesterday afternoon at her home in Indiana avenue. The meeting was well attended and after an afternoon pleasantly spent with cards, the hostess served her guests with refreshments.
