HOBART GETS ON ROLLERS. Yoobs Folk Want to Come to Gary Semi-Weekly to Enjoy Pleas-
of a niak. A private party of sixty people from Hobart have notified IL A. Vosler, of the Gary Casino, that they would be In Gary on Friday night of this week and have engaged th skating rink for that night after the regular hours. The party will be composed of Hobart's young people who will come over for an evening of pleasure and a general good time. It la their Intention to engage the rink every two weeks. GARY SCHOOL BOARD TO HOLD SPECIAL SESSION. Meetings of State Association of School Boards and State Body of Superlntendants Will Interfere With Municipal Meeting. The Gary board of education will probably call a special meeting of that bcdy before the regular meeting which was to take place on November 5 th, as there i9 much business of Importance to take place. On November 4th, 5th and 6th the state association of school boards and the state association of school superintendents will take place at Indianapolis so the regular meeting of the local will take place some time next week .the date of which has not as yet been set. SMALL FIRE CREATES All ALARM YESTERDAY. A small fire started on a telephone pole in the rear of the First National Bank building on Broadway yesterday afternoon and caused an alarm to be sent into the police station. "Another call sent in a short time later was to the effect that the fire engine was not needed as the blaze had been extinguished. Building Permits Issued. Building permits were Issued in Gary today to Attorney H. J. Curtis for the erection of a two-story dwell ing on Jackson street and to John Petrek for the erection of a one-story dwelling on Massachuetts street. CALUMET DENTAL SOCIETY WANTS TO JOIN LARGER BODY. Will Hold a Meeting Soon at Which Flans Will Be Discussed. The Calumet Dental society will hold their next regular meeting at Gary some time next month as a meeting of importance will take place. i Work started yesterday on the pav ing of Broadway between the tracks, as Mr. Kaff stated to a Times' reporter Tuesday would be done. The con crete mixer is now nearly put up and will be ready for operation today or tomorrow. The brick Is expected to arrive Saturday. Judge John Aiken went to Crown Point last night for the purpose of addressing a democratio meeting at that place. Judge Aiken is now one of the most fiery democrats in the county, having come here from Fort Wayne, where he was Judge of the superior court. He was prominent in politics in that city and has been one of the leaders in democracy since he has come to Gary. Al Mohr, the big South Chicago boiler manufacturer, was in Gary yesterday afternoon visiting Sam Sax of the Sax & Savage Co. Gary hotel serves Noonday lunch, served from 11:30 a, m. till 2:00 p. m., 40 cents. Judge Westigreen of Miller was In town yesterday on business. The judge says that on Saturday night the whole town of Miller will be depopulated when Taft comes to Gary. There is probably the largest percentage of re publicans in this thriving town of any other in the county. The democrats of Miller have never been strong enough to even put up a ticket In their town. Work will start today for the con struction of a shed at Thirteenth street and Washington avenue for the housing of the chemical engine. This is the engine which will be used for the south end and will be kept in that district instead of at the police station, so that it will be handler to get at it. Officer Gus Newman will have charge of the work. During the last week of the cam paign it will be necessary for the re publican managers to issue search war rants to find an unnaturalized for eigner. Attorneys J. F. Sawyer and I I Bomberger were in Gary today on busi ness. Gary hotel serves club breakfasts, 30 cents to SI. Served 6:00 a. m. till 9:30 a. m. C. O. Holmes, the historian of the Pioneers' association of Gary, is now sending out blanks to be filled by the old settlers of Gary giving data con cerning the early days of the city. This will be compiled by Mr. Holmes and printed just as soon as the work can be accomplished. Attorney Franklin T. Fetterer of this city was In Hammond and Crown Point today on business. Henry Lundt of Hammond was in Gary today on business. Mrs. Dr. E. E. Giesel returned to day from an extensive visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Brown of Crown Point. The college men of the steel mills are planning to give an Hallowe'en par ty at the Victoria on Saturday even ing, Oct. 31. High School Notes. A nice test was given for English III and IV yesterday morning. Most of the scholars thought it easy, but some thought it might have been easier. The boys who play on the football team received the emblems for their sweaters. They are made of a large gray cross with a gold "G." John Makerley, first year, was absent from school yesterday, he said, he had "business in Chicago" to attend to. Miss Lucile Smith was absent from school Wednesday. TOLESTON. Charles McCoy of Hammond transacted business in town yesterday. Willie Woldt is on the sick list, suffering from typhoid fever. Miss Lena and Bertha Henke reurned home yesterday from a few .lays' visit in Chicago. Mrs. A. John and daughter were Hammond shoppers yesterday. Mrs. L. Ebert and Mabel Ebert visited friends in Hammond yesterday. Mrs. J. S. Slocume of Griffith was the guest of friends here yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. H. Howorth have moved to Anderson, Ind. Gary at the preseait time, said a lo cal physician today, than there has been for the past twelve months. The parade at Gary next Saturday night promises to outshine everything ever before attempted. In other words It will be a "humdSnger." Now that the Chicago, Lake Shore and South Bend Interurban railway were given another extension of time to build their Tolestom line it's -up to them to get busy. .Maybe the Toleston town dads won't be so lenient next time. President McCrea of the Penn sylvania railroad visited the steel plant in Gary yesterday and seemed very much pleased with the outlook in gen eral. If there is anything in the way of weather ywu want please ask for it. As to the ventilation in an average picture show it is as .good as could be expected for 5 cents. Mr. Marshall has cosne and gone. Some people may have changed their minds after hearing him speak, but the chances aa-e that they changed them the other way. Chief Martin's hotel is growing in popularity each evening with the advent of the chilly weather. Don't be mislead by the fact that Indian summer will last forever. Re member that the time for straw hats and empty coal bins has long since passed. Rooms in Gary are at a premium at the present time, which goes to Bhow everybody Is coming in and nobody is going out. Two hundred thousand population by 1911 is not considered such an enormous growth by the majority of Gary'B' business men. "Tag, you'r'e it" will be heard on all sides next Saturday. Some of the "fish stories" that are being told at the present time in politics are worse than those that were told by the members of the fishing party who went to Kuntz lake last Saturday. Gary Servians are ready to leave at a moment's notice to fight for King Peter should the occasion demand it in the Balkans. In New York it is said that a baby Is born every five minutes and in lots of cases without the approval of the janitor. Gary must be a place of some importance when Taft decided to talk here instead of Chicago. GAEY LODGE NEWS. The Gary Masonic club Is planning an extensive program of entertainments and social functions for the coming winter season. A meeting of the board of directors of the club will be held at the Gary hall next Saturday afternoon, for the purpose of discussing and arranging a series of social entertainments and dances for its members. The club now has over 100 members and at the last meeting received six applications for membership. As soon a3 the still mills at Gary are in actual operation it is the intention to organize Gary's first Masonic lodge. Of course, at the present time, there are scores of Masons In Gary, but it was thought advisable to organize the lod at that time for the reason the wIk body could be taken in at that time. It is expeced hat Gary will have one of he largest lodges in the county a short time after the organization. Woodmen. A special meeting of the Woodmen will take place on Saturday, October 31, at the I. O. O. F. hall, for the purpose of conferring the degrees upon six new candidates. The Hammond degree team has been invited to confer the initiatory work and it is expected there will be a large turnout from the camps of the surrounding towns, as they have all been invited to attend the meeting. As no regular meeting night has been selected In which the lodge holds its meetings, a regular date will be selected on that night. KuiKbt of rythfas. The Knights of Pythias held their regular meeting last night In the I. O O. F. hall and conferred special initia tory work in the first and second de grees. The candidates for the evening were William E. Carter and David Pil cher. The evening was marked by a large attendance. Odd Fellow. Steel City Lodge I. O. O. F., No. S53, will meet on Friday night and will confer the initiatory degree upon several candidates. The meeting of the Gary encampment took place last Tuesday night. It was the second meeting of the encampment, as it has only been organized in Gary about a month. The following are the officers that have been installed: J. W. Nieukirk, chief patriarch. Frank Webster, senior warden. R. II. Hildebrandt, high priest. J. W. S. McGregor, recording secretary. Sidney Williams, financial scribe. Andrew Nelson, treasurer. The Independent Order of Foresters will hold their regular meeting In the I. O. O. F. hall on Monday evening, October 27. The Royal League will hold their meeting at the same place on the following Monday. The local nest of Owls will meet for their regular meeting next Thursday night at the I. O. O. F. hall.
