The joint state and national sample
ballot is out. The ballot will be print
ed on pink paper and will be very much reduced in size compared with the ballots of former years. The print
ing is so small that the average man who needs spectacles when reading
will be unable to read the print in a darkened room, while the foreigner who Is barely able to read the English language, will be at a loss entirely as to where to split the ticket Not even
as much as a rule or black line Is Inserted between the national and state tickets. Flgnr on Tnft Popularity. In democratic circles It Is figured out that the state election ' committee is taking advantage of a few things, principally of a man's poor' eyesight and darkened booths and the ignorance of the foreigner who is not well versed in the English language. Most people it is argued, have a natural horror to splitting a ticket anyway, for fear that they will do It wrongly, and sooner than loose their vote they will vote a straight ticket. But, it was maintained that it was as fair for one candidate as for the other. The ballot contains " seven tickets, to-wit: Democrat republican, prohibition, people's party, socialist, socialist labor, and Independence. The latter is graced with the name of Harlie A. Townsley of Gary for judge of the supreme court from the fifteenth dis trict. The ballot is 13 by 10 inches in size.
