He was arrested by detectives from the Kensington police station Thursday night, after they had obtained evidence that the was running a "blind pig." He denied the charge. ri;,- c.l., Arranging Complimentary Smoker. The South' Chicago Business Men's association are planning to give a complimentary smoker at Lincoln hall on October 14. Secretary George B. Green of the ' state association has been invited to attend and will be among those who will speak during the evening. To Open Five Cent Theater. L. Polina, proprietor of the South Chicago theater, 9230 Commercial avenue, is making preparations to open another five cent theater just opposite his present stand. Alterations on the front of the building will begin in a short time, and the improvements to be made will consist of all the requirements of the city building department. Hold a Pleasant Meeting. The remains of Mrs. Edward Brennan, 79 years old, mother of J. J. Brennan of Roby. were shipped from the Brennan residence, 6323 Evans avenue, to Chicago today, where the aged and respected laay will be laid to rest. John Krashyriski, 32 years old, was fined $50 and costs this morning in Judge Lantry's court for having made an assault on his boarding boss, Tony Kragewski, 8317 Railroad avenue, on Sept. 30. The assault and battery resulted from an argument that the two had about the defendant repaying 25 cents to his landlord. Phillip Commodore of Hammond has opened a saloon on Forsyth avenue, and will hold a grand opening 'on Oc tober 16. Mr. Commodore was formerly associated with the Schumacher buf fet in Hammond and is one of the best known saloon men in this part of the county. About twelve members of the East Chicago Methodist congregation attended the reception tendered in Hammond on Thursday evening to Rev. A. T. Briggs, the new district superintendent. Mrs. Clara Potter of Traverse City, Mich., will arrive Monday to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. F. (Special) The many friends of Miss Beatrice Howell of this city, will be pleased to learn of her marriage on Thursday evening, to Mr. William F. Sehroeder, agen for the Pennsylvania company at Englewood. The ceremony was performed by Rev. F. J. Brown of the local Congregational, church, and occurred at the home of Richard Wowell, father of the bride, on Magoun avenue. Only the immediate relatives of the families were present at the wedding supper that followed, after which the young couple left for their future home in Englewood. Miss Mary A. Davis, a close friend of the bride, acted as brides-maid while Fred Wirklns of Chicago, performed the duties of besttnan. HID DOGJl GRIFFITH Hound Runs Amuck, Biting Children and Animals Promiscously. Griffith, Ind., Oct. 10. (Special.), The people here are considerably alarmed over a mad dog scare which took place yesterday. A large hound belonging to Woddie Melcher went mad apparently, and bit a small child belonging to Mr. Stellma. It then ran down the street, snapping at everything In Its way. Several other dogs were bitten and several people narrowly escaped the same fate. Mr. Melcher and other gave chase and finally cornered the rabid brute in a house, where it was shot. The child that was bitten was Immediately taken to Dyer, where a madstone was used, while all the animals that the mad dog encountered have been killed.
