THE TIMES.
QUEER CASE WAS REVEALED. (Contlnned from pace 1).
showed rare business judgment in handling the property. It Is said that she would get out in the fields and work with the hired men. One of these hired men was James Adams. By the use of her Cassie Chadwlck Influence she persuaded him to work for her for a long period of time for . his board, clothes and what "attention" she cared to lavish on him. It is understood that the "attention" was the principal consideration. Finally Adams decided that he was not getting ahead very fast on "attention" and demanded that he be paid for his services. In this emergency Mrs. Kroledge said: "Let's get married." They were married at Crown Point, but on the way back from the wedding Adams made certain disclosures to his
new wife and she forthwith kicked him out of the buggy, which she was driving, and divorce proceedings on statutory grounds were started in the Lake superior court before Judge Tuthill. The divorce was granted and the
woman, who had been Mrs. Adams for
about two hours'7 before she decided
to get rid of her husband, was free
again.
Hew She Won John t The next hired man . with whom Mrs.
Adams became Interested was '.John
Kroledge. He worked for her for over a year and he too was paid in board clothes and "attention." With the emphasis on the "attention." Finally Kroledge arrived at the period where the "attention" ceased to be a consideration and he asked for pay for his year's work. Again the proposition was made, "Let's get married." A widow with an
eighty-acre farm stocked with fat cattle and blooded horses looked good to Kroledge and he took up the widow on her proposition. He worked for a year or so more and was allowed enough to live on and lots of "attention." He tired of this, however, and, again asked for his pay. It was refused and when the merry grass widow saw that she had worked the man to the limit she started divorce proceedings and secured an injunction In which John Kroledge was restrained from entering the house or trespassing on the farm. To show what a schemer she. was she wrote several letters to .Kroledge after the injunction had been secured

signed "Spunk." Plot a Deep One. After she had secured evidence that he had been in her house and had trespassed on the farm she told him that he had violated the Injunction and that he would be tried for contempt and
sent to jail if he did not at once get out of the country. It looked rather bad for John and Mrs. Kroledge saw that she would not only get rid of her husband, but would easily secure the divorce as John would not dare to come back and contest the case. , It seemed that the way had been
cleared for another husband who could
come to the farm, work a while, marry
the merry widow and then make way for the next victim. The difference between Mrs. Kroledge and Mrs. Gunness is that she secured her husband's services instead of their money and she got rid of them through the divorce courts instead of with an ax. The manner of getting them was the same, namely, through a matrimonial bureau. Brines Ghost Oat. But the ghost was taken from the closest when John Kroledge hired a lawyer and decided to contest the divorce and fight the contempt case. Attorneys Petticord and Conroy will, this morning, ask for a change of venue to Porter county and they believe that they can secure for their client part of the money- he had worked for during the past two years. And alimony from a woman besides. This morning in the Lake superior court Judge Virgil S. Relter exonerated Mr. Kroledge of the charge of contempt of court on the showing made by his atorneys and the next step will be the filing of a cross-complaint by Kroledge's attorneys in which he will ask $2,000 alimony and a monthly allowance.

A Lake county directory, one which
will enable a business man to learn the exact address of every resident in
Lake county, his business and bis full name is rapidly becoming a fact.. This Invaluable compendium of Information Trill be ready for distribution by the 1st of January nnd another tie will
bind the people of these closely re lated communities together.
The need for a directory of Lake county became apparent for this very
reason. So close are the business rela
tions of the men in Gary with those of Indiana Harbor those of Indiana Harbor with these of East Chicago, those of East Chicago with those of Ham
mond and Crown Point that these cit
ies are really like one great municipal
ity.
When it became necessary for the
business man in one of these cities to
learn the address of a lawyer, a me
chanic, or a business man in any other of the neighboring cities he had to do so by the word of mouth method. He had to ask some one about it or perhaps
bother the telephone girl. Will Cost But $3.
Now he will be able to refer to his
Lake county directory and learn all of
the facts about that particular person
which are usually found in a directory
He will have all of that valuable In
formation at his elbow for the price of
S3 and there will not be a live busi
ness man in the region who will not avail himself of the opportunity.. For several weeks there has been a squad of men covering the towns of Lowell, Crown Point and other of the smaller towns in the south part of the county. These men will soon invade the cities of the northern part of the county and they expect to secure the names and addresses of 40,000 people before they are through with their work. A very valuable thing about the work these men are doing is that of numbering or renumbering the houses In all of the towns in which they are securing data. In the cities where there is no free delivery the people are very careless about numbering their residences and they seem to prefer the country way of saying: "Jim Jones lives; well you go two blocks west, one south and he lives in the small brick house with the green roof next
to the church," instead of saying, "Jim Jones lives in 478 Commonwealth avenue." To De Illustrated. The new directory will have 800 pages in it and will be profusely Illustrated. There will be advertisements of all of the leading merchants and business men and there will be other valuable data. Even the country districts are being covered by two men on motor-cycles and there will not be a farmer on a highway who will not be included in the book. The work of getting out a book of this kind Is a great undertaking and Is in the hands of a capable directory mar John T. Powers, who is the manager of the company. The new directory Is gotten out by a stock company, which is composed of some of the best-known men in the region. They have employed a man to get names who speaks eight languages and have two men on motorcycles - going through the country.
