But the republicans were bent" on instant death so in the end the roll was called and all the republicans went down on record for adoption of the majority " report to kill. The triumph of Slack was one of the features of the special session. Save More Delay. More delay characterized the house yesterday and as a result the state will pay $2,300 more for another days' ses slon. It had been thought sure that adjournment would come this after noon, but the bouse did not advance all the administration measures so sessions tomorrow will probably be held. Opposition is growing to the. governor's plan for coping with the night ridegrs and It is thougth that the bills enabling the governor to create a secret constabulary and appropriating $10,000 for the purpose will have rough sledding. The night rider question was thrashed out this morning. I came up at 10 o'clock as a special order of business. Will Get In Campaign. Another development from the special session is the determination of Governor Hanly to get Into the campaign. He will speak in practically every county, particularly in the small towns and rural communities. Vice President Fairbanks will get into the campaign Monday when he will speak at Lebanon. He will then take an extended tour under the auspices of th republican national committee after which he will return for ten days In Indiana just before the election. Governor Hanly Is expected to make sharp retort to the charge of Representative Knlsely, democrat, that the governor offered him a position paying $2,000 a year in return for his vote for county option. Hanly was away yesterday when the Knlsely affidavit was made public. The democrats offered no resolution for grand Jury or legislative Investigation because they feared such action might prolong the special ses- ; slon and disgust the public. LOOK FORWARD TO IT Hammond Presbyterians Will Attend Big Meeting in Chicago Although Hammond by its geographical location Is not allied with the Chicago Presbytery yet the sessions of the First Brotherhood Convention of Chicago Presbytery Is open to Hammond men -irrespective of creed or denomination The Chicago Presbytery expects to have 1,000 men attend the sessions which will be held at the corner of Rush and Superior streets on Oct. 15 at 3:30 and 8 p. m. The launching of this brotherhood organization in Presbytery will be a momentous occasion and indications point to the convention which has been called as being the most inspirational gathering for men ever held in Chicago Presbytery. Reverend Dr. Fullerton, moderator of general assembly, Rev. Dr. Ira Landrlth, general secretary of the brotherhood, and Hon J. A. McDonald, editor of the Toronto Globe, one of the greatest Canadian newspapers, will be the speakers. It Is hoped that it can be arranged for Mr. Robert E. Speer to speak also.
