ROM CROWN POINT NEWS Will Be Home-Coming Week. Next week will be the annual "homecoming" week and Crown Point will be filled with Its old-time residents who come here annually to visit the fair. It will be a jubilee celebration In more ways than one, a Jubilee in crowds, a jubilee in exhibits, from the email potato to the blooded stock, a jubilee of attractions, a jubilee of races and a jubilee of efforts to make the fair of 1908 the best and largest and most successful fair ever given by the society. Already enough concessions have been granted to guarantee a good line of attractions, besides the free exhibits that will be given daily ending with a dance and the greatest display of fireworks ever seen in Lake county. m Advertised List. The committee on drafting bylaws for the Center Township Republican club met at Attorney Pattee's law office on Thursday evening and worked on the rules and regulations governing the club during the campaign. Attorney Frank B. Pattee was made chairman of the committee. A meeting of the club will probably be called soon after the fair, next week, when the active work by members of the club will commence. Don't forget the ball game between the Crown Point team and Indiana Harbor at the home grounds near the Erie depot. Crown Point will do their utmost to defeat the Harbor boys and get a line on the Joe Long Colts of Hammond, whom the local team are anxious to cross bats with in the future. Barringer Brown was a Hammond and Gary visitor yesterday. He reports the baby of Dr. and Mrs. Gtisel of Gary as being quite ill. Miss Ruth Sohl of Hammond is enjoying the week end with Miss Josephine Wheeler and friends of this place. Dr. Chas. Tinkham transacted business in Hammond yesterday. Mrs. Barringer Brown, who has been taking treatment at the Battle Creek sanitarium, has sufficiently recovered to make a visit with friends at Hinsdale. Attorney Frank Pattee transacted business in Chicago yesterday. Nat Smith's gang of carpenters did not go to Hammond on account of the short hours imposed by the union on Saturday, there. Mrs. Dovichi returned last evening from a visit with Chicago relatives. Officer Frank Shine of Hammond brought down two extra boarders to Carter's "hotel" last evening. The Hammond Fruit company have disposed of a carload of watermelons In less than three days in this vicinity. The Kankakee river will be the mecca for many of our fishermen tomorrow. EOBERTSDALE. Card of Thanks. We wist to extend our heartfelt thanks to our friends and neighbors, the firemen of stations No. 1, 2 and 3, the Robertsdale volunteers, Moltke Lodge No. 676 I. O. O. F. and F. O. E. of Whiting for their kindness and sympathy and also for their beautiful floral offerings during our recent bereavement, the death of our wife and mother, GEORGE DORSCH and chilrden, Adam, Louise and Emma. The Ladies Aid of the Evangelical church held their regular manthly meeting at the church Thursday afternoon. About fifteen members were present. Mrs. Kleim and Mrs. M. Thompson were enlisted on the membership roll. Arrangements were made for an ice cream social to be given Sept. 4. After the regular business of the meeting was disposed of, a social hour was enjoyed by those present. Wonder who the man was who set the clock back two hours Wednesday evening in order to make his wife believe he got in before the "wee sma' hours of the morning." Mrs. Charles Eggers attended a card party at the home of her mother in Blue Island, yesterday. Mrs. J. Fasse entertained a number of young people at her home in Roberts avenue, Wednesday evening in honor of Miss Blossom Robinson of South Chicago. The young guests enjoyed a very pleasant evening in games of various kinds after which dainty refreshments were served. Miss Violet Goldlng is suffering with a severe attack of poison ivy. Evon Peterson of Roberts avenue, is quite a hero in the eyes of Rovertsdale people this week and many think he is deserving of a Carnegie hero madsi since he so nobly succeeded in res cuing one of the three girls who so narrowly escaped drowning at the Lake Front Park Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Joseph Westsburger is able to be out again after being confined to her home for a week with a severe attack of rheumatism. GARY NEWS Bains Responsible for Damage. The recent heavy rains which flood ed the sewer in many places, to becomo filled up with sand and resulted in several places In a breakage of the sewer. One of the places was In the rear of the Gary hotel and resulted in water In the hotel being shut off for some time. Plumbers worked on the re pair fom some time, however, and the damage had nearly been repaired yes terday afternoon. Besides flooding the basement with water which backed up from the sewer, several of the business men In the vicinity were unable to have their water turned on. Good Game for Sunday. Tomorrow at the at the Cub's baseball park, the Delawares will play the Perfector of Chicago. The Delawares Is now the strongest team in the city, and has the cleanest record of any team. At Piper's park a game between a Gary colored team known as the Gary Regu lars and the Royal Giants of Chicago will clash. The Regulars are new men and this will be their first try-out Attorney H. V. Call of Chicago was in Gary yesterday on business for the Indiana Steel company. Rev. Fred E. Walton of New York who has heen filling the vacancy in the Presbyterian church which was recent ly filled by Rev. Frederick A. Hamilton. Rev. Walton has been called to the church to accept the regular pastorate, but It is not known whether he will accept or not. He will preach at the services tomorrow. G. W. Kaiser of South Bend, was In Gary yesterday on business. R. Bartlett, of St. Louis, has been in Gary for the, past few days attending to his Interests in this city. Mayor Knotts was in Chicago yesterday on busness. The fishing party to the Superior region, will leave today. They will be gone for about two weeks. Work has been started on Sixth avenue and the street will be completed in about five weeks. Attorney O'Donnell of the firm of O'Donnell & Wake, left for a business trip yesterday to Ohio, where he expects to be gone for several days. A. D. Mertier, of the Mack Realty Company, has left for his home in Whaleyville, Va., where he has been called through the serious illness of his wife. Mrs. W. J. Slattely, wife of the GarySouth Bend contractor, accompanied her husband from South Bend to this city where she will spend several days visiting. Attorney J. Word has been received here from Logansport, announcing the very serious illness with little hopes of recovery of George Shaver, a former well known resident of Lowell. Everybody Is making calculations to attend the county fair next week, but are praying that the maker of all things will favor us with a soaking rain first. The song of the threshing machine is heard from early morning till late at night in this vicinity. Word has been receved here from Sedalla, Mo., announcing the death of Daniel Collins. Mr. Collins was formerly a resident and business man of Lowell and has many friends here who extends sympathy to the bereaved. A card from Niagara Falls says those on the trip are having "just a lovely time." It is reported that Dr. C. E. Broad and family are contemplating a trip up in Canada with his automobile. Miss Mary Watt of Chicago, is spending two weeks in the country here the guest of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Jay McCaun and family. . .' The Misses Ella and Violet Mitchell of Chicago are enjoying their vacation at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Hill. The business houses of H. Gershman and S. H. Petrie have recently been painted, adding greatly to their appearance. The theatrical season Is open in the Lowell opera house and this, Saturday, evening the play "Texas Ranger" will be produced. A Cowboy band will give a street parade at 2:20 in the afternoon. They carry their own orchestra and the play throughout will be full of thrilling features. Perry Nichols is improving the looks of his residence property in North Clark street by laying cement sidewalks from the house to the front and back. Miss Anna Pearce is enjoying a visit with Chicago friends. Frank Strickland has got hs fine new farm house completed and expects to move into it in a few days. ST. JOHN. Williams claims to hold the record on growing tall sunflowers. He has one in his yard that measures sixteen feet from the ground to the top. A game of ball for $100 a side has been arranged between the Interstate Mill team and the Republic mill boys. The game is to be pulled off next Monday at the ball grounds.
