At the Police Station. , "Buster Brown," the abandoned baby, has not yet been claimed. He is spending most of his time at the Harrison street police station, where he romps about the matron's room, looking longingly out of the windows, waiting for his mother to come and gather him to her bosom and sing a song to him, as he says "mamma does." he will be turned over to the mercies
of the juvenile court.
The latest theory that has been ad
vanced is that gypsies stole the child from some residence on the south side and, fearing pursuit by the police, abandoned the baby In Chicago. Dur
ing the last three weeks four gypsy
caravans have passed through South
Chicago and the police believe that
they may have been connected with
the case.
Says He Lives ot South Side. "Buster" says he lives on South Park
aven'ue and has a little baby sister whose mamma is his mamma. The
police believe this to be purely the lit
tle child's imagination. Chief Shippy took "Buster" from the beginning to the end of South Park avenue, but he failed to see his "big white house" where he says he lives. While In a reminiscent mood yesterday "Buster" said that he was lost while his papa and mamma were carrying chairs. This, according to the police, bears out the theory that the father and mother were either moving or had broken up housekeeping. "Whether or not the house to house canvass through the local district will result In finding the lost child's parents remains to be seen. "Anyway, no harm is done," said Captain Halpin, "and if we do find anything that leads to the young boy's identity, it will mean a big feather in our cap as well as the officer who succeeds in getting the much desired information.
In the neighborhood of one hundred
