Master Lightner Wilson. The Crown Point baseball club will play the Chicago Red Sox team at their grounds near the Erie depot on Sunday afternoon. The Red Sox were defeated by the local aggregation some time ago by a score of 10 to 2, and they are coming down against expecting revenge. A good game is promised. Main street is getting another rolling with the steam-roller and Is being put in shape for acceptance by the commissioners. A billiard room has been started over John Foss' saloon and now Is running full blast. Probation Officer Muzza.ll is enjoying a slight vacation from his duties as truant officer of the schools, while the latter are not in session, but his duties as prohabtion offlcer in keeping the numerous delinquent youngsters in order in the north townships is anything but a snap, and he is kept constantly on the jump. Excavating on John Brown's basement for his new JS.000 house Is near ly completed. Ed McNay and a force of men are doing the work. The con tract is being watched with interest by our local contractors on account of the wide difference in the amount of the bids between the Chicago builder and the local men, and they are all anxious to see how it is going to be done and whether they, the Chicago contractor, or Mr. Brown will get all that Is coming to them. John Babbit and wife left yester day morning for Battle Ground, Ind., where they will enjoy a two weeks vacation. Mrs. John Wilson is making an ex tended visit with relatives at Taylor ville. 111., and John is "batching" it. Fred Heide Is visiting with the Bartholomae family for a few days Dr. Harry Laws, interne at the city hospital in New York, is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Laws on Main street. Everybody is looking forward to the great jubilee fair with its mighty special attractions, which promises to sur pass anything in the amusement line s ever given in Crown Point. Cheer up,! George Weiss and a few friends of Hammond took a trip to Clark station in a gasoline launch "Katherine" and enjoyed a very pleasant time. Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Lester Ottenheimer, Claude and John Dreeson, leTt yesterday for Winona Lake for a two weeks' Inspection of the city run by boys of that place. The boys will be gone about two weeks and expect to have the time of their lives besides getting some knowledge as to how cities should be conducted. Mr. and Mrs. Ottenheimer left today for Seattle, Wash., to attend the Grand Aerie there. Abe goes as the delegate from East Chicago lodge of Eagles No. 1127. Mr. and Mrs. Ottenheimer will be gone about three weeks. On the return trip they will stop at Denver and Salt Lake City. Doctor A. A. Ross and family returned last night from a three weeks' sojourn In southern Illinois. Sidney Veaco, the drug man, took his rst degree in the Odd Fellows Tues day night. Weisskops returned yes terday from Mattewan, Mich., where she has been visiting her sister, Mrs. C, Engel for the last two weeks. Announcement cards were recieved yesterday of the engagement of Eman uel H. Silverman and Miss Gertrude Jacobson, 30th of Cleveland, O. Miss Jacobson was until recently one of East Chicago's most prominent young so iety ladies and the cards have created quite a stir in social circles. It seems shame that the young men of East Chicago should have allowed so charming a young lady to be captured by an outsider. Mrs. George M. Rastovski of Melville avenue, who has been seriously ill In St. Margaret s hospital since June 3, is mproving slowly. Her friends are very solicitious for her recovery and keeps her room at the hospital well equipped with flowers. HIggins, who has been spending the past ten days in Benton Harbor, returned yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Frahm of Chi cago were in the Harbor yesterday and leased their property at Guthrie and Aldis to Mrs. J. Biederman for saloon purposes. Adam Weil yesterday let the contract for a two story frame building on the corner of One Hundred and Thirtyseventh and Hemlock streets. lauch Party Saturday. A launch party will be given again next Saturday by Arthur Savage, of Sax & Saxage, up the Calumet river from South Chicago. The party will go I far as Blue Island and returning will stop at Rivervlew, where they will dance and have lunch. This is the sec ond of a series of most enjoyable launch rides which have been given by the popular cigar man. Those in the patty from this city will be Mr. and Mrs. Sam Soglovitz, Floyd Maxon and Bar bara Fritsche. There will also be a j number from South Chicago and Chi cago. Watchman Is Sunstruck. John Nolan, a watchman for the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern railroad, was sunstruck yesterday at 3 p. m. and was taken to the Mercy hospital. To, day he is reported to be getting along very well and his complete recovery is expected. He was flagging trains at the crossing when he was stricken. Child May Die. The little child of Attorney William H. Fitzeerald of Gary, is in a critical condition as a result of summer com plaint superinduced by the hot weathei. It is feared that the child can not re cover. Match Game of Ball. The Gary business men and the pro fessional men of the city will play an other game of baseball tomorrow af ternoon at 2:30 p. m. The game which was played recently resulted in a vlctory for the busInesa men h a score oi o 10 . Floyd Maxon will leave Tuesday for Three Rivers, Mich., where he will spend a month's vacation, and possibly remain there for the winter. Mr, Maxon while In this city has been emnloved bv his father, who Is a con tractor. Herbert Orschal, formerly of the Ready Roofing company of this city, was in Gary yesterday looking after his business affairs. In a short time Mr. Orshal expects to leave for Seattle, Wash., where he will have the manage ment of his father's estate at that place. On the way to that city he will visit at his former home in Montana, A boat load of ore is now coming into "the harbor every day. The last to clear the harbor was the H. H. Rogers. There are now thousands of tons of ore piled on the wharves for the unse of the mills the minute they are ready to open them up. C. O. Holmes and wife left yesterday afternoon for Harcourt, la., where they will spend three weeks visiting with relatives. Of course the city clerk had to have The Times sent with him. J. G. Colson, a laborer, was caught by a police officer yesterday with a re volver on his person, and was brought before Judge Gitzgerald for carrying concealed weapons. He was fined $11.90. Walter Czarnecki was found by the police yesterday, with part of the spoils of the fires on his person. In his pock ets were found ten jars of mustard which the groceryman of the store which was burned, identified as coming from his place. Other articles which have been taken from the place by the thieves which swarmed about the fire are being gradually recovered. Yester day a man was found who had stolen the handcuffs from Officer Nestorovlch's room in the Garden hotel, another place which was burned. D. A. Dunn of Anderson, Ind., was In Gary yesterday on business. The little son of Attorney W. H. Fitz gerald, but a few weeks old, is sen ously ill, and it is feared that the sick ness will be fatal. The heat has had an influence with the child. J. J. Sherr of Chicago, representing the Caxton Engravers and the Reliable Press, was in Chicago yesterday on business. Pat Carroll of Buffalo, was In Gary yesterday on business. We are opening a grocery store and meat market and we would like to have an interpreter. We regret very much lose our good citizen. LOWELL. Foresters Picnic Saturday. The next event of note to be held in Lowell, is the Forester's picnic which will occur- at Oakland Park Saturday, Aug. 8. The committee In charge are sparing no efforts or pains to make this one of the largest and best picnics ever held in Lowell. Tht Foresters of Crown Point will not hold their annual picnic this fall, and it is expected that they and all other Forester lodges of Lake county, will co-operate In making the picnic at Lowell a grand success. White of Hammond, formerly of this city, is visiting his son William of this place. He has been ailing for several months, but s much better now. William D. Moore, who has been ill for several days. Kelly and Senor Ventresca of the University, are circulating a peti tlon f.o present to the State Board of Pardons, which is expected to meet about Sept. 1, praying for the murderer of Guy Hlnkle, who was convicted here and sent to the penitentiary at Mich igan City for a term of from two to fourteen years. The circulators of the paper say that the man's family in Italy are in destitute circumstances. The petition, which is being signed quite generally by members of the University faculty and other prominent citizens, advances as reasons for the plea, the belief that the convicted man was not given a fair trial, that there is evidence to indicate that he shot in self-defence, and that he has already expiated any crime that he may have committed. rr TOTJ DOXT TAKE THE TIME fTHTI

Gives Adventist lecture. Rev. A. Drew, who has been the guest of his daughter, Mrs. E. L. Kessler, for over a week, has returned to his htme in Rochester, Ind. On Tuesday evening the citizens of Wilcox addition gathered in the school building, where Rev. Drew gave them an excellent discourse on "The Second Coming of Christ." Chas. Hannephin entertained friends from East Chicago Tuesday evening, Mrs. Gaskey of Indiana Harbor was the guest of Whiting friends yesterday. Roy Walker and his nephew, Wm. Gondon, have gone to Wanatah, Ind. for a short visit. Friends of Joseph Ilickey and Hoyt Ogram have received cards to the effect that they are at present in Minnesota, and are having a fine time. P. Shannon' and J. Stewart were Ham mond visitors Tuesday. Mrs. Lyons, mother of Mrs. P. Mur phy, was a Chicago visitor yesterday. Roy Welsby is expected home from Pennsylvania the fore part of next week, where he has been visiting six weeks. The police are continuing their slaughter of canines, and have now done away with sixty-eight dogs, which have been running at large and not muzzled. Mrs. Frank Klein and son are expect ed home from St. Cloud, Minn., where they attended a family reunion. Miss Grace Flaugher of the postoffice and Winnie Fleres of the S. S. G and E. Co., will leave tomorrow for a two weeks' visit in Michigan and several other points.
