Great Painter Heard His Sentence and Calmly Passed Away. When Turner, the famous painter,

was dying at Chelsea he sent in de

spair for a Ramsgate doctor who had

done him some good during his recent stay at that place, and who, he hoped,

might take a different view of his case from that which the London physicians had expressed. The doctor arrived, and confirmed the opinion that the artist had very little time longer to live. "Wait a bit," said Turner to

the doctor, "you have had nothing to eat and drink, yet, have you?" "No, but that's of no consequence." "But it is," replied the painter. "Go downstairs and you will find some refreshment; and there is some fine brown sherry don't spare it and then come up and see me again." The doctor refreshed himself and then came

back to the patient. "Now, then," said Turner, "what is it? Do you still think so badly of my case?" The doctor regretfully said he could not alter his former opinion. The artist shook ills shoulders, turned his face to the wall and never spoke again! Dundee Advertiser.

HEARD ON THE B0UESE. Logan: We feel that wheat should be bought on any moderate reactions. Clement-Curtis: Shorts in wheat do not care about carrying over until Monday and unless news from Northwest indicates cool weather over Sunday would prefer buying. Ware & Leland: We regard wheat as in a position of growing strenght with a market broad enough to fully justify buying the future.

Barren: lhe wneat market appears a little overbought and hence ripe for

react ion.

Bartlett Advices indicate that the

farmer is stacking a large proportion

of his wheat.

Pringle: Realizing sales prevented further sales yesterday, but we think

wheat should be bought at the market. Waite: Wheat now Is In weaker hands and we would not be surprised to see liquidation set in today which will carry the market very materially lower. Bache: We look for a moderate reaction but advise buying for the long pull on any recession. Dick: We think the safest and most profitable plan for the time being will be for moderate turns following such tendencies as the market seems to show. Brown:.. While some little irregu

larity may result today, the long side seems to be gaining ground and the best advices appear to be to buy standard stocks on every recession. Financial Bureau: We continue to be conservatively bullish on the stock market believing buying chances are

offered on every little decline. Bullish specialty work should occur today coincident with a resting of issues lately aggresslvely active on the long side. On bulging reasonable returns on par holdings should not be ieglected.

Few persons realize that a horse's hoof is really the same thing as the toe nails of human beings or of animals having toes. The horn of a hoof grows just as a toe nail does. The hoof grows more rapidly in unshod horses than in those wearing shoes. And it grows faster in horses which aro well groomed and well fed. But on the average the horn grows about a third cf an inch" a month. Hind hoofs grow faster than fore hoofs. The toe of the hoof being the longest part, it takes longer for the horn to grow down therj than at the heel. For instance, the toe will grow entirely down in from 11 to 13 months, while the heel will grow down in from three to five months. As the new horn grows out any cracks or defects in the old gradually work down to where they can be cut off, just as with human finger nails, you can watch the progress of a bruise from the roof to the tip.
