A stranger by the name of Burtram,
who traveled through here last evening was taken into custody by Marshal
Rose and Gill, being charged with horse stealing and assault and battery by August Wall, a farmer living near Chesterton. Mr. Burtrorn claims that he traded horses with Wall yesterday and after the deal was made, some
mlsudnerstanding arose which ended in a fight. It seems as though Burtrorn got the best of Wall and then
skipped cut. Burtrom was turned over
to the Chesterton marshal where he awaits the trial and he says he will

Democrats Are Reconciled.
Quite a few of the local democrats who were- rejoicing over the defeat of
Bryan and conFlderfd him a dead is
sue, are having quite a time becoming reconciled to his resurrection, and will support him only on his "changed
ph-itform and "changed policies."
"Bryan is the self-same William Jen
nines of old, and his changed policies
are the only means of landing him
elf in the White House. In the event of which all his old time radicalism will reassert itself, and woe betide the
old arold-democrats that gave him the
hook." said a Crown Point man. Nor
withstanding the present situation the
republicans are aware that only tne
hardest kind of campaigning will be necessary to overthrow the peculiar
Influence that Bryan has over hi: hearers when his "spell-binding cam palgn begins.
